Welcome to my second guide on units! This time, it is the mage's. I hope this guide is as helpful as my healer unit guide. It will be the same as the last time, but this time, I will make this guide a little bit differently in order to make it easier to get through.

    Healer's Guide: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/the-healers-and-saviors-unit-guide.6219/

    Mage Build
Mages are mainly the ones who will hit hard and even exploit elemental weaknesses. They can even go as far as to giving out status ailments as well. For a damage-dealing unit, you would like to stack MAG %. If you want your mage to survive longer and take less damage, then feel free to stack HP% and/or Def %. SPR% and MP% is also beneficial for a bigger MP pool and to help them take less magic damage.

Weapons: Since mages want to deal damage, rods are the best way to go. The strongest rod as of now is the Omnirod with 91 MAG, a TMR from Arc. If you do not want to waste time getting it, then you can grab either the Wizard Rod from completing the Surging Menance Trial. However, if you want your mage to have more magic defense, then staffs will help. The strongest staff as of now is the Magi Staff, a TMR from Lenna. If you're unable to get the TMR, then the next best staff is the Golden Staff, which can be won from the Advanced B-4 Colisseum.

Armor: For hats, the best hat for a mage would be the Cat Hat, a TMR from the Black Cat Lid unit (Limited Unit during Halloween event). If you do not have BCL, then the next best hat for a mage would be the Chapeau, which can be won from the Advanced D-5 Colisseum.

Accessories: The Magistral Crest (TMR from Vanille), Earrings (Bought from the Fat Chocobo in the Town of Kolts), Hero's Ring (Recipe won by obtaining 30 trophies), Celestial Glove (TMR from Luneth) and the Genji Glove (TMR from Gilgamesh) greatly contributes to a mage since they boost their stats and can give other bonuses as well. I also recommend the Ring of Lucii for your best mages. Ring of Lucii gives:
    • Alterna - Magic damage (5.1x) with ignore SPR (25%) to all enemies. MP:99
    • Death - Instant KO (30%) and physical damage (0.8x) with HP drain (30%) to one enemy. MP:30
    • Holy - Chance to negate physical damage taken (25%) and counter physical attacks (25%) with light magic damage (1.2x) and recover MP (40) to self

    Top Mages
    #1: Exdeath

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-exdeath-final-fantasy-5.5511/

Right now, Exdeath is the best mage as of now at 6*. He carries the ability, Trascender, allowing him to deal 30% more magic damage to birds, bugs, plants, beasts and even humans. This makes him even a force in PVP Arena. In addition, he is also able to dualcast and carry Meteor as well. His stats are also high in def and SPR for a mage, meaning he is a mank/mage-tank. His LB at 6* also is capable of inflicting 4 random status ailments, making him extremely useful.

Weapons: Since he can equip swords, the Enhancer can give him MAG. Not only that, if you have the Letters & Arms materia (TMR from Ingus), then you will increase his MAG by 50% when he is equipped with a sword.

Armor: For a mage who can tank, he is able to use shields and strong armor, but he cannot wear any robes. The Survivor's Helm (Won from Colisseum Advanced B-5) boosts his defense more and gives him elemental resistances. The Force Armor (Won from the Demon Chimera Trial) gives him def, more spr and also more resistances.

    Unit Synergy:

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Rosa is forever going to be a great synergy to many team setups. Exdeath through dualcast can use up a lot of MP so having Rosa in the team can allow Exdeath to be supplied with more mp through being Blessed and through her LB. Cecil, Ramza, Delita, Tilith, Faris and Vaan are able to boost his stats through their moves. Also, Faris and Vaan is able to use Full Break on the enemy so he can deal more damage. If you want to make use of Exdeath's LB more, then Bartz can be there to help out with Entrust. Arc and Krile is also a great mages. Since both of them have access to dualcast, they are able to elemental chain behind each other (Krile double casting THundara for thunder spells).

    #2: Arc

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-arc-final-fantasy-3.4517/

Arc is another wonderful black 5* mage who is able to dualcast as well with the elements of fire, ice and thunder. He also carries a death spell as well.

    Unit Synergy:
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG]

    About the same as Exdeath.

    #3: Krile

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-krile-final-fantasy-5.393/

I've mentioned her in the healer's section, but Krile just works. Dualcast, a dualfront buff if she uses staffs, and can wear light shields and light armor.

    Great Equipments:
    Head:
Because of the fact, she can wear helms, she can equip the Survivor's Helm (Won from the Coloseum) for more Def, Spr, and for elemental resistance to ice, earth and dark. If you want more of the magical route, then a Cat's Hat (TMR from limited Unit Black Cat Lid) or a Chapeau would work.
Accessories: If you want more of the damage route, a Genji Glove (TMR from Gilgamesh) and Earrings would help. For healing purposes, Defender's Bracer will help.

    Esper Synergy: Carbuncle

Because of dualcast, Krile can also make use of the bar-green magic from Carbuncle. Which means she can put up two elemental resistances up for the team at once. Plus, Last Stand can help Krile whenever she drops below 30% to boost her Def and SPR.

    Unit Synergy:

    [IMG][IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I've taken units from the healer's section which she works well with and put them here. Bartz is able to lower wind resistance and both of them can elemental chain wind attacks.

    #4: White Knight Noel:

(Giving recognition to @Ike Royle for a great strategy of using Ring of Lucii with WKN)
    WKN+Ring Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/ultimate-use-for-ring-of-lucii-with-noel.7545/#post-139630

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-white-knight-noel-ffbe-christmas.7631/#post-136857
    [IMG]

The mage tank... and a tremendous one at that! WK Noel actually does a lot for the holidays and may be the tank for people to push and grab! His passive, Attract, boosts the likelihood of being targeted by 30%. If he use "Bring it On" in battle, he gets targeted by another 80% and reduces all damage taken by 50%. Noel trumps over even Cecil due to the fact he covers the whole party as opposed to Cecil only covering one unit. What is nice about him as well is the fact he has passives boosting his Def and MAG depending on what he is using. Rods and Heavy armor works for him well. Only thing is he can only counter when he is hit by magic attacks. That still does not stop him due to the fact he takes all ST attacks straight to him.

    Esper Synergy: Golem

Golem will give WK Noel the Last Stand ability.

Unit Synergy: ALL MAGES!, CoD, Rosa, Cerius, Faris, Delita

WK Noel works so well with all mages! Because he's a tank who is capable of taking all ST attacks straight to him and lessening it, it gives other mages safety to do what they do best. WK Noel with his blast skills can lower Ice and wind resistance, enabling physical and magic damage dealers to take full advantage of it. In addition, his LB works wonders as it will not only gives a boost in Def and MAG, but also recover MP as well too! WK Noel works with CoD and Cerius because of their ability to riase elemental resistances, saving him because of his fire weakness and CoD is able to use Comeback. Also, Rosa the MP pot. Faris and Delita can also work with WK Noel since they can lower the enemies stats since he is the tank to deal magic damage.

    #5: Hope
    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-hope-final-fantasy-13.6635/

Hope is a unique damage-dealing mage because he can use throwing weapons. IN addition to MAG%20 and MP%20, he also carries a Def20% passive, which no other mage and healers carry as passives. Unlike Kefka, he can use Firaga, Waterga and also Aeroga. He has more chances to exploit elemental weaknesses than Kefka. His LB is also a beauty. It hits high and ignores 50% of the enemy's SPR. As an added bonus, he carries Esuna and Raise and has the ability to use light shields, making him more durable. You can even allow him to attack physically because of Area BLast and he has a pretty decent ATK. Because of all of this, the exclusive materia, Attacker (ATK10% and MAG10% ) fits him VERY well.

Weapons: You can have him use rods, but he is great to use throwing weapons. His exclusive weapon gives him HP20%, but the best throwing weapon for him is his TMR, Nue. It boosts a unit's ATK by 51 and his MAG by 82. This allows him to be the strongest physical damage dealing mage and also allow him to hit high as well. If you like, you can equip a dual wield materia on to him so he can do

    Esper Synergy: Ifrit, Diabolos, Carbuncle

Since he has an effective and good physical hitting normal attack and Area Blast in addition to great throwing weapons, he is the only mage to make use of the Esper's Killer abilities, 3 of them are Ifrit, Golem and Diabolos. Carbuncle can help Hope become more of the healer and support with a Cura, Dispel and bar-green spells.

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
I don't think a kid would like to hang around a clown like Kefka but someone this works. Kefka's LB is able to lower the enemy's team elemental resistance, helping out Hope and they can also chain with Blizzaga and Thundaga. Rosa's the ever-loving Regen Royalty. Since Hope can make use of throwing weapons, he is able to benefit from anyone who can even boost his atk stats as well. Bartz and Hope can elemental chain with wind attacks, but Bartz can also Entrust his LB to Hope to make use of the ignoring 50% SPR attack as well. In addition, he can chain well with Area Blast alongside Snow and Lightning.

Now, some of you are wondering why I put up Vanille. Yes. She is not the best of healers, but while Vanille can only auto-raise, Hope is able to instantly raise. The two of them will be able to give more support; there are better healers than Vanille with Refia being able to Full-Life.

    Honorable Mentions
    [IMG]
    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-kefka-final-fantasy-6.783/

One of my favorite villains! What I really like about him is his Hyperdrive, which is great against single bosses and it hits very high. He hits hard and have a large MP pool to use. Also, his TMR is a ribbon... A RIBBON! He will get his 6* in the game.

    Unit Synergy:

    [IMG] [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Tellah:
    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-tellah-final-fantasy-4.1492/

Tellah is a nice old sage. strong ga-spells, can use cura and raise to act as a secondary healer if needed and a random Recall spell.

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG] [IMG][IMG]

The elemental chain would be nice. Faris has more to offer than Vaan since after a Full Break and a focus, she can join Tellah with her own Firaga spell. Vanille and Tellah can team up as far as reviving goes and Vanille can give some support through Focus as well. And let us not forget the ever loving Rosa (Is it just me or does Rosa just fit in in about any team situations more so than Refia?) Also, Terra and Tellah can team up since both of them has Raise and Firaga.

    Shantotto:

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-shantotto-final-fantasy-11.529/

The only 4* mage to learn almost all ga-spells! Sadly, she does not get any passives. If she did, she would rock the world. Just wait until she gets her 5* though! I GUARANTEE YOU! That 90% of the mages will be replaced and will only be topped by Exdeath and Kefka (Once he gets his 6*). EVERYBODY WANTS HER! The TMR MAG30% is saucy!

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG] [IMG]

    Golbez:

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-golbez-final-fantasy-4.911/

A tank mage like Exdeath. Can use ga-spells and can use Binding Cold to paralyze the enemy team. His TMR meteor is VERY nice to place on a damage-dealing mage.

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Golbez does have the EVO Summon 30% passive so he can make use of summoning the espers at a stronger level. Rydia and Garnet can help charge up the summon gauge for this reason. Rydia and Golbez can team up in dealing the damage while Garnet goes straight to Savior duty. However, if you have 3 of them on a team, you're most likely will use Rydia over Golbez in summoning espers.

    Terra:

    Unit Review Link: http://brave-exvius.com/threads/unit-overview-terra-final-fantasy-6.344/

She is almost like Tellah. She has access to Raise and cura, but she can also dispel in addition to that. However, all she can use are fire-related spells up to Firaga; she can cast Graviga. She does have a special ability, Guardian Mog, which removes all status ailments after each battle. Once she gains her 6*, she gains even more abilities, which may knock her higher up.

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Rydia:

Rydia is the strongest summoner as of now in-game, being able to summon an Esper's strength up to 60%. She can also cast Meteor as well. The low aspect about her is the fact she does not have any other strong spell besides Thundaga, Meteor and Blizzaga.

    Esper Synergy:

Espers that deals damage benefits greatly from Rydia.

    Unit Synergy:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Mages for Beginners or do not have Much

    Nichol:

You can obtain him after finishing the Olderion storyline. Well... he has waterga and blizzaga... and two bar-green spells. you should already have better mages than him before getting to Olderion hopefully. In addition, his stat support skills have too many setbacks.

    Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Ramuh

Since Nichol can cast Barwatera, Ramuh can be placed on him so he can still hit hard but not having to worry about taking more damage from water. Also, Carbuncle can be equipped on to him turn him more into a support and take advantage of the Last Stand ability.

Unit Synergy: Cecil, Cerius, Vanille, Faris, Rosa, Vaan, Hope

Cerius covers fire, light, ice and dark, but Nichol can also help her in covering resistance for water. Cecil, Vanille, Faris and Vaan can help boost his SPR and MAG and Hope and Nichol can work together to element chain Ice and Water spells. Also, Rosa's the MP- Restoration Queen.

    Vivi:

Once he hits his 4*, he is able to double cast spells. However, other mages will end up leaving and outshining him very fast since he lacks a ga-spell.

    Celes:

The counterpart to Terra. She is nice to have; only learns up to Blizzaga. However, she carries Focus, which will benefit her. Good for beginners.

    Galuf:

Um... he's... a tank-mage? Not like WK Noel though. He can cast ga-spells... and carry a Draw Attack and a passive to boost his Def and SPR to make him tankier. He also has his own Last Stand passive as well. He is unable to use staffs or rods. What is weird is his ATK is almost equal to his MAG.

Weapons: The only weapon which will give him MAG is the Enhancer sword (dropped from Intangir Trial boss in Vortex). For tankiness, the Winged Saint (Recipe from Hanged Edge event only).

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Carbuncle

Golem makes Galuf tankier and gives him the Provoke and Cover ability. Carbuncle would make Galuf more of a support.

Unit Synergy: Lenna, Vanille, Refia, Cecil, Tilith, Demon Rain, Ramza, Noctis, White Witch Fina, Celes

These units are good to boost his stats.
