Another banner, another 2 esper units and this time we have one awesome looking Raegen. Frankly it's hard to look bad next to Odin.
If you like burst damage, this banner will be for you as both units this week raise the bar for burst damage significantly as chainers.

Aside from that, I somehow spent a lot of my free time on the newest Terraria 1.4 update and OH MAN I love it.

Just streamed, had to interrupt the writing process, heh.

    War Hero Raegen:
    [IMG]5*
    [IMG]6*
    [IMG]7*

TMR: Odin Synergy (Materia) - Increase ATK (30%) when equipped with a dagger
Increase ATK (30%) when equipped with a sword
Increase ATK (30%) when equipped with a great sword
Increase ATK (30%) when equipped with a katana
Increase equipment ATK (25%) when dual wielding

STMR: Atrithr (Sword) - 188 ATK, 50% True Dualwield

    Overview:
Raegen is back but while a badass with heavy armor stands next to him, he sadly doesn't wear his old attire.

WH Raegen has a surprisingly unfitting base stats spread. While all unpotted stats are what you expect, he does have an allrounder focus on pots, thus his base ATK is lower in comparison to other meta units. And his defensive passives aren't that hot either with 40% HP (60% with swords), 60 DEF (80% with Large Swords) and 30% SPR (50% with Katanas). As you can see, he gains different stat boosts through gear selection, but those are only minor changes. WH Raegen also has an innate 240% ATK with his TMR as well as 175% TDW and the 6x chain cap. This means you can use Aloha Lasswell's TMR to easily get to 200% TDW while gaining physical evasion. He doesn't have a guts passive and can surely be happy to be a TDW unit, thus fixing the lack of bulk rather easily.
He's resistant against sleep and paralyze, leaving a lot of status ailments open, but doeshave a 50% dragon and reaper killer. Generally not amazing killers but they are there.

WH Raegen can W-/T-Cast all of his abilities and has a few ones that really are lackluster.
He has two self buffs with Honorable Fighter and Unequaled Strength that try to attempt to be good. The former is a 150% DEF/SPR buff with 25% phys mitigation, both are already part of many team comps in slightly worse or better form, and the latter a 200% ATK buff that grants him some LB support, while his LB really isn't his main focus.
He also has two breaks, one 60% ATK/MAG one that lasts 3 turns and a 60% fullbreak that chains but only last one turn. Both can be useful in rough times but usually don't see play. If you're new to the game they're likely going to be great.
Through Divine Determination and Knight Rider's Edge he can try to be a finisher but his finishing mods are lower than his chains so there's not a real reason to use them.
And lastly his AoE 30 MP recover + 2 esper gauge fill isn't really outstanding by today's standards, considering he could deal either a ton of damage or fill some MP and prep the esper gauge. It's nice for clearing those peasant mobs in SE's.

Also just after writing this I noticed that the mod increase for the other finisher costs 10 Esper Orbs, so.... you know.

With all the generally less useful abilities out of the way, let's jump right into the ones we are going to see in our rotation later, starting with his two imbues. From here on, all his chains are AMoE chains, which do have a lot of family members and matching his rotation isn't too hard either.
At first you'll likely want to imbue with either fire or water. Both chain, both last 5 turns and both apply a self 100% dragon / undead killer buff, which is extremely convenient if you face those types since these two are super easy killer buffs that don't require any other actions.
Afterwards you can imperil both ice and fire at the same time by 100% through Blades of Azure Crimson, which is used at the start but can also be a good way to re-gain possibly dispelled imperils easily.

His main chain is a backloaded one where both ends have 50% DEF ignore, which easily ramps the modifier up. Innately, with his passives, it has a 5400% modifier and after his Limit Burst ends up at a total 7000%. Only that, for a TDW chainer with T-Cast, that is high.

But it gets even better when we look at his CD abilities.
He has both versions of Fire and Ice with his Azure Flame or Crimson Frost Edges. Both are available at Turn 4, have a backloaded total modifier of 9300% after his LB and imperil their respective element by 120% before the damage. So even if he did imbue with a different element, as long as the opponent is not resistent against the other one, you COULD use both. The damage gain wouldn't be huge but there would be one.

Then, as a member of the Aldore Bloodline, he has his Complete Awakening CD ability, available at Turn 1 with a 5 turn cooldown and this one.... this is some good stuff.
Firstly, it grants you a 250% ATK buff for 4 turns and for the following 4 turns T-Cast. Fine enough.
But every time you use it, you dispel all enemy buffs. Not a full dispel, only the buffs. Usually units who have this kind of dispel have it on a way higher cooldown and this one is being used regardless. So you save up an action while performing a buff dispel.

His Limit Burst is mostly for buffing and potentially imperilling since it's not all that useful. It has a high base modifier, he does have a slight LB damage buff BUT the last hit does not cap the chain, unfortunately.
So after using it all of his abilities receive a 400% mod boost. Which for our main chain means +1600%.

How does he fare in the meta?
In terms of damage, as the increasing powercreep wants it, he's the best.

And oh boy his Turn 4 / 8 bursts are god damn nasty. He does require a few turns to really get going but the best thing is, even without setting up he's a fine damage dealer.
To my surprise, for one of the typical AMoE chainers he has an uncomplicated rotation. Unlike our friend, Akstar.

Through IW enhancements and door pots, WH Raegen can become bulky. Despite the lack of a guts passive, as long as you equip him correctly, he shouldn't have any issues in planned fights.

Huge burst, high consistent damage, easy to use, potential to be bulky, as a unit himself he is great. Nothing to really say. Sadly he does fall into the category of not really being a really unique unit, but to be fair most of the damage dealers on the meta rankings aren't.

If you want to pursue high damage rankings for DV, his burst is entirely ST damage and he doesn't require MM Xon for killers if you do face a dragon / undead. He even has a self 150% killer buff, though since it costs his entire LB cost it normally isn't that great over his imbue killer buffs.

His TMR is pretty good and does open up different builds for TDW units. The materia can grant 60% ATK and 25% TDW, so for units you'd equip e.g. a Bartz TMR on and a 60% ATK materia, you can now swap those two out for WH Raegen's and Aloha Lasswell's TMRs to gain 25% physical evasion. Why not?
His STMR saves him the materia slot entirely as it grants 50% TDW, which also saves him an accessory slot. So instead of using 1 materia and 1 accessory to get to 200% TDW, he now only needs his weapon. It makes him way way easier to gear and can push him to high ATK levels despite lower base ATK.

He should easily carry you until Neo Visions hit.

    Four Winds Physalis:
    [IMG]5*
    [IMG]6*
    [IMG]7*

TMR: Tetra Sylphid Synergy (Materia) - Increase MP (20%) and MAG (50%)
Enable dual wielding of one-handed weapons

STMR: Blue Storm (Gun) - 88 ATK, 180 MAG, -20% MP usage

    Overview:
Unique and not unique at the same time, but I'm glad her moogle companion gains wings during his win animation. Cute as always.

FW Physalis has very mage like base stats but luckily not over the top. Decent HP, good MP/SPR and high MAG, the most recent trend for mages.
It's hard to talk about her passives without taking a look at her equipment selection. Daggers, Spears, Throwing Weapons and Guns. No rods. So you don't have any weapon that has a MAG IW rare enhancement. Which means, it's actually better to use Krowa's TMR to gain access to Rods. Which in return means, if using two Rods, she will have a total of 20% HP, 30% DEF/SPR. Even with 150% innate MAG TDW, this is SO low. You somewhat need two Sweet Luka TMRs to really fix that. At least she does have 230% MAG with her TMR.
FW Physalis, while having 30% phys / mag evasion, does not have a guts passive. So survivability CAN be a big issue if you don't have some of the mage TMRs to gain bulk easily.
She's resistant against sleep, silence, paralyze and confuse which at least covers a wide variety of nasty ailments outside of petrification. She also has an innate 100% bird killer, why not.

As an extra note to her bulk, if you are not concerned about hitting the MAG cap, her event exclusive Spear as well as her STMR do net her more HP. 15% HP/SPR each. Her spear can also get a 20% HP rare on top of that, so for an ideal mix of bulk and MAG, Wind Sprite's Spear+ would be the perfect fit.

FW Physalis can W-/T-Cast all of her abilities and only the first three aren't really good. While her both grenades that imperil their respective element 100% each aren't used, they can be useful if you need an easy imperil after a dispel. Tetrashot is a quadruple hitting, double elemental ability that doesn't chain. While Magic Splash / Storm Bullets can be good for mob clearing as they have a decent modifier, chain and increase your evocation gauge by 2-3 for each cast.

While she isn't a mage that needs to stack up her abilities, she surely wants to set herself up first and in our rotation has two turns where she deals no damage and two turns with mediocre damage. That's due to her ability Deep Concentration, which on its second use on the next turn becomes Deeper Connection. It's a buff that grants FW Physalis a 250% buff for 5 turns alongside a 500% modifier boost for all of her abilities, which adds a ton of damage.

Done with the setup? Then it's time to enjoy insane modifiers!
Now we can focus on some Chaos Wave Awakened chains, backloaded with 50% SPR ignore and available in two different elements: water and wind!
They initially start out as 2900% modifiers, but after our first round of buffs go up to 6500%. They also have an in-built modifier boost, boosting them even further up to 6900%. Now that is an epic number, if you know what I mean.
Once we use the LB later in the rotation, for a few turns, we'll even reach 8900% PER CAST. Combine that with T-Cast and boom.

Speaking of which, the best way to unlock T-Cast or should I say only way is through her CD ability, Sylphid Type. She has two Type CD's, both sharing the same cooldown but having very different effects.
Sylphid Type imperils water and wind by 120% for effectively 5 turns, boosts your MAG by 250% for 4 turns and 100% wind resistance while also granting T-Cast for the upcoming 4 turns.
On the other hand, Physalis type will also be used due to the 300% mod increase to all of our abilities that we're using. But it also offers an AOE 70% SPR break, in case you focus on ATK/MAG breaks rather than full ones or ATK/MAG is resisted, and grants her some survivability through 3 mirage stacks. The mod boost has a great effect on our on-demand chains but work even better on the next ones....

At Turn 5 you get access to the second set of CD abilities with awful names that I won't type. Both are split in 3 parts, thus receive three times the mod boosts from any ability. Then all parts in the ability have 50% def ignore, effectively gaining six times the effect of them.
So when we have an ability such as Physalis Type that boosts our mod by 300%, in reality we're looking at a 1800% mod increase.
Before the Limit Burst we have a total 11300% modifier per cast and afterwards a whopping 14300%. Normally I'm not a huge fan of double element, since both CDs have different elements, but the burst damage on this one with a 14300% modifier is very hard to pass on.
Only sticking to one element is 100% fine, but in this case it does make the burst turn decently more... bursty?

The LB itself is similar to WH Raegen's, not really the best. It does chain in this case though! Also imperils water and wind by 120% once again in case the other imperil got dispelled.
Afterwards all of the used abilities gain a 500% mod boost for the upcoming turns, which results in a 2000% mod boost on our on-demand chains and a 3000% increase on the CDs. Definitely worth it.

How does she fare in the meta?
The damage speaks for itself on this one, the burst FW Physalis offers is NUTS.

However I must say that she has to invest into bulk. Look at the damage build, it's paper thin even if you swap out the Stardust Rod for Wind Sprite's Spear+, which would have been a smarter pick.

You can fix it and she will still have monstrous damage. What makes her look less appealing in the damage category are the two turns where she deals 0 damage. Since this format looks at the average damage output over the course of X turns instead of e.g. 3 successive damage dealing turns. Depending on your playstyle you'll of course have to evaluate each yourself. Some don't care about taking a turn to set units up, some want to kill the trial on the first 1 or 2 turns.

Her damage really starts at Turn 3 with the provided rotation and has clear spikes in damage.

I'd argue to say though that her innate killer and killer buffs with bird is an uncommon one and likely won't see much play. It might also affect the way you build her as killers either take away a slot for possible bulk or a good chunk of her MAG.
With STMRs she is much easier to use and due to these reasons I wouldn't say that her general package is better than some of the way safer mages, such as Dark Spirit Sol, for those who lack STMRs or even some TMRs. Additionally, Dark Spirit Sol brings two amazing killers with human and demon.

That won't affect her unit ranking spot as it's mostly determined by the damage, but she really doesn't bring a lot of protection for herself and requires you to do the work on that.

    Insane damage though.

Her TMR is the best option for all mages that can go TDW but lack the innate dualwield passive. It's not super common but it does happen occasionally and MTDW is by far more wanted than MTDH if it's an option.
Her STMR I think is extremely niche. 180 MAG is really high, but Guns' rare ability is 40% ATK. Unlike her event spear, the rare only offers stats that are 100% useless on her. It does save a materia slot though and procs her 15% HP/SPR passive, thus worth to use on herself, but I'd argue that any other unit will use it. Perhaps once we get another TDW hybrid? We're due for one! And we haven't seen many hybrid units who rather focus on their MAG stat! Would be cool to switch things up.

    Conclusion:
This is a good banner if you want to be part of the powercreep curve as both chainers set the bar, yet again, higher and offer an insane burst.
I might have come off pretty harsh on our cute FW Physalis with her moogle companion. If you do have access to Sweet Luka's TMRs then it's really not hard to gear her. As well as making sure you get her event spear. If you have these things, door potted her and have good IW enhancements, she definitely deserves the #1 spot.
WH Raegen is yet another unit that is insanely strong. Both him and the newest Cloud, if you happen to have STMRs, should get you to Neo Visions in quite a few months, so WH Raegen might be a good catch. Even if his average damage starts to fall behind, his burst is still immense and not hard to access.
Overall a fine banner but due to featuring two damage dealers also one that many might pass without having to think twice.

Raegan is frighteningly easy to equip as well. Especially with his pretty solid freebie sword + it's unique ability. I don't even have the best one-handed sword/katana/greatsword/dagger gear.

(Ok, well, thanks to Kadaj I have a significantly better katana than I did before.)

I was able to break 3k attack and solid bulk on him without taking a single piece of my best TDW/sword gear off of Gilgamesh.

Turns out I could reach 3k5 Mag with my FW Physalis, she's pretty insane ! Will definitely UoC her, just waiting for 11k rainbow on monday just to be safe.

Before I finish reading, I just have to say thank you for reminding me about Terraria!

I played the shit out of it on release and forgot it existed. Maybe I will dive in again seeing as I have nothing but time right now...

That said, thanks again for another review, my dude! Glad you're back and hope all is well!

As I was advised, I pulled for WHRaegen, and got even Physalis on the way! A bit of luck for once, thank Odin. Happy to be set in terms of damage for a while, I was starting to feel like falling short. Now I'm pretty much set and just aiming for better gear.

    Nice review, as always!

@Memel0rd I'm playing Terraria too! My objective right now is to found the Lost Girl and get her drop (to get all cellphone materials as soon as possible) before the first boss lol

P.S. Thanks by the review o/

Man, I'm on the fence on pulling for these units. My setup is a little dated, but they can still do the job. 4W Phy's sprite is just too fun to watch.

I'll wait until after I try my RNG luck on the 5* 11 rainbow pull on Monday

FWP and WHR are not summonable with the 10 rainbow summon.

Of course they are. As stated in the news,
    That includes those two.

Amazing review as always! Yet, I have very limited resources after spending some in the past couple months, so no way I'm pulling for damage dealers today..

One correction, Raegen STMR is a sword not Katana
