Greetings and welcome to the second part of the Kingdom Hearts event!

It's a lovely tuesday and I'd like to ask you if you want to see me review AI Katy. Personally I don't want to support that collaboration as I'm fully against the implementation against celebrities that have nothing to do with video games in a game like FFBE. I didn't review the gacha Ariana Grande version back then. So if you're interested let me know, otherwise AI Katy is just pretty much a jack of all trades unit that doesn't excel in anything really. The best role I could see her in would be AoE dodge tank against physical attacks while providing breaks as her niche where nobody else would do a better job. But then again, you can also run Rivera if you really want to and do that with any breaker.

Kingdom Hearts itself is a game I've never played and therefore can't share any of my personal experiences with, so.... rip. But I know many enjoyed it here!

All that being said, I do know one thing about Kingdom Hearts:
    "Okay I believe you."

Also... both are quite bland units, just saying. If I seem not particularly excited about them, please keep that in mind as we've seen so many damage dealers that are nothing but damage with not many unique traits in their kit.

Banner Review: Riku and Sephiroth (KH) by Memel0rd

    Riku:
    [IMG]5*
    [IMG]6*
    [IMG]7*

TMR: Soul Eater (Sword) - 160 ATK, 30% TDW, 25% Light resistance, 5% MP Refresh, Riku Only
STMR: Heart's Darkness (Materia) - Increase ATK (70%)
    Increase light resistance (50%)
Increase equipment ATK (50%) when dual wielding

    Overview:
Did you like Sora's kit? Here's the exact same kit with better parameters basically.

Riku's base stats are great overall as expected from a unit that got taken from the JP side more or less. He covers all stats nicely and actually has great passives. With his own TMR he comes with a total of 50% HP, 70% MP/DEF, 20% SPR and 150% ATK as well as 130% TDW. The TDW is a bit odd but it's easily patched up through Colorful Lei. This would also grant him some physical evasion, which can always be useful.
For some additional survivability, Riku has a guts passive that reliably procs as long as he's above 10% HP. On top of it, receiving damage with Riku isn't the worst idea as he gains a permanent 200% ATK buff once he drops to 80% HP. This can be very handy against a spam of dispels and even increases the damage slightly in his rotation.
Riku is resistant against paralyze and confusion leaving many status ailments open and you should make sure to either have status ailment resistance buffs OR something like a Discernment / Ribbon TMR equipped.

Now, to the wonderful part of his kit.
The list of abilities that are too self-explanatory / niche to be mentioned. I will quickly mention their niche if they have one.
    - Vertical Strike or Helm Split (if you really need a 60% ATK or DEF break)
    - Spinning Slash (if you want Aureole Ray chains)
    - Dark Firaga.

Do note that all of his abilities can be permanently W-Casted and for the entire rotation T-Casted due to various enables.

This leaves us with 3 abilities and his CD abilities.

For one the first two are primarily used for his element.
Dark Break as well as Darkhand are both relatively weak AT chains with no innate element. Dark Break being a 500% modifier at lvl 120 and Darkhand a 640% one at lvl 120, which is okay to build up chains but nothing to get excited for.
The main reason why you should use Dark Break is the 5 turn dark imbue that comes with it. Of course you can also equip a dark weapon onto Riku since the damage drop will barely be noticeable if you equip Soul Eater in the right hand.
Darkhand will be used at the start of the rotation for its 120% imperil and will later on be replaced. It lasts 3 turns thus effectively 4 turns, which is really good if you need to dispel the enemy and quickly re-apply your imperils.

Riku's main chaining move will be Dark Maelstrom, a backloaded AT chain that has an effective 1100% modifier at base and at level 120 a 1500% modifier.

Though after one of his CD abilities, Dark Aura, it'll get more powerful.
Dark Aura is available at Turn 2 and has a 2100% AT chain at level 120 while increasing the modifier of Dark Maelstrom for 4 turns by 150%. Since it's backloaded and has DEF ignore on both parts, you'll effectively get a 2100% modifier post Dark Aura and there is no need for you to keep using Dark Aura every other turn.

His last CD ability, Duel Trigger, will be used every time it's up basically. It's available at Turn 1 with a 4 turn cooldown, decreases his own DEF by 15% (which is barely anything) but in return increases his ATK by 250% for 3 turns as well as granting him T-Cast for the following 3 turns. Not too shabby.

If you didn't have enough T-casts yet, well you should most definitely use his LB every 5 turns.
At max level it's an effective 3500% modifier with 12 hits that don't chain perfectly all the way, but that's not why we're using it. Imperilling dark by 120% for 5 turns is what we want. On top of it, it also grants him T-Cast on the 4 following turns.

How does he fare in the meta?
    Riku
in terms of raw damage output is actually the #1 even if we extend Bartz's rotation to 16 turns.

In terms of using the unit I'd say he's definitely better than Radiant Lightning as she mainly focuses on self-buffing and then dishing out as much damage as possible, though if she dies early on in her rotation it can be quite bothersome for her to make a comeback due to her high cooldowns.
Riku on the other hand is quite smooth. As long as you have his LB or his Duel Trigger CD up it shouldn't be hard to maintain him.

In terms of survivability he has actually quite high DEF and a guts passive. As usual, he can become even tankier through IW enhancements which are basically doubled for TDW units as long as you don't have atrocious rolls.

Since Riku is going to spam his T-Cast it can be quite hard to keep up with his MP consumption for players that don't have big MP batteries on their team. Yes, he has a total of 10% MP refresh but with the build I provided that'll regen 64 MP per turn. And he uses 150+ MP in his rotation each turn.

Compared to WoL Bartz he doesn't have the same way of utility, ability to disregard dispels as easily and also not the same way of controlling the HP threshholds in a fight through massive burst, however Riku is a constant damage dealer that has higher average damage than Bartz. In upcoming longer trials like Shinryu I'd prefer Bartz, but that's my opinion.

Generally said he has the highest average damage at the moment and will receive balance changes in the future similar to Sora and Cloud (KH). In the current JP meta however Riku is considered to be a mid-tier unit and therefore isn't too likely to become meta in the future again.

His TMR is exclusive to him but if you like to whale, his STMR is great just like Sora's. 70% unconditional ATK with 50% TDW can be really good, especially when paired with Sora's STMR. Combined they'd grant 100% TDW with 140% ATK! However keep in mind that in general chasing STMRs that only boost offensive stats might not be the best idea. Defensive stats often are the gamechangers, not offensive ones.
The 50% light resistance might make a difference in very few occasions.

    Build + Maths:
    Murasame (FFBE) (172 ATK)
    Soul Eater (160 ATK, 30% TDW) + 50% ATK, 30% HP/MP
    Prishe's Hairpin (45 ATK, 10% HP/MP)
    Sephiroth's Longcoat (30 ATK, 18 DEF/SPR, 20% ATK/HP)
Colorful Lei (45 ATK, 25% TDW)
Hermes Sandals (40 ATK, 50% TDW)
    Disparate Swordsman (70% ATK)
    Legendary Guardian (60% ATK)
    Hero's Vow - Dark (60% ATK)
    Adventurer V (40% ATK/DEF/SPR)

    Sephiroth (KH):
    [IMG]5*
    [IMG]6*
    [IMG]7*

    TMR: Sephiroth's Longcoat (Clothes) - 30 ATK, 18 DEF/SPR, 20% ATK/HP when equipped with a Katana, 50% Man-Eater (Sephiroth KH only)
    STMR: Masamune (Katana) - 172 ATK, 30% ATK, Two-Handed, 1.3x average variance

    Overview:
Sephiroth didn't break the meta. Let's try with Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts!

For the sake of my own and your sanity, I will just call him Sephiroth since unfortunately the actual Sephiroth unit is merely but a chain family fodder at best nowadays until he gets the chance for some kick-ass SBB!
Sephiroth's bases are very very similar to Riku's in pretty much every way except for a few differences like 2 base ATK etc.. He also comes with similar passives! 60% HP/DEF, 80% MP, 30% SPR and 140% ATK with a Katana as well as 150% TDH. Sadly he does not have a guts passive himself, but in return better resistances, yey!
He's immune against disease, sleep, confusion and charm, which is a nice set of resistances but oftenly enough will need more than that. Charm resistance on a unit with permanent T-Cast and TDH capabilities can be great though against pesky Liliths in the arena.

Here's the list of abilities that's either too niche or too self-explanatory to be mentioned. Or outperformed.
    - Oblivion - Absorption or Oblivion - Crash (60% ATK or MAG break if really needed)
    - Dark Blessing (AoE chain with good damage and 1 Turn AoE Reraise but can't be spammed due to costing your entire LB gauge)
    - Come, Power! (AoE heal + LB fillrate with 3k self damage)

Do note that Sephiroth is capable of permanently T-Casting all of his abilities, which is nice and can make previously mentioned niche abilities easy to fit into the rotation at any point.

Quite similar to the original Sephiroth, this version has access to many different chaining families. While they won't be the ones we use in our rotation, I'd still like to mention them despite most of them having pretty bad modifiers.

His good old Octaslash makes a comeback with the same modifier but this time an 80% light / dark imperil.
If you are struggling to keep Sephiroth alive or want to use Aureole Chains, Life-Taker can be quite nice. It only has a 360% modifier but grants him a self 40% HP reraise. This is MASSIVE for the arena I might add. AoE AR chain with self-reraise. Hit me up fam.

His best chaining family outside of Divine Ruination is actually Bolting Strike. GLEX unit fans rejoice!
It has a base 900% modifier but at level 120 already goes up to a 1500% modifier. His LB puts it up to a total 2100% modifier with its buffs though after the LB his DR chains will become stronger.

Sephiroth's Divine Ruination chains are quite traditional once again. A weak 500% chain that has a dark or light imbue attached to it as well as a 100% respective imperil that both last for 5 turns and a strong chain.

Engulfing Dark is the ability you will spam the most and just like Riku, his MP consumption will be high. At that point around 180 MP+ per turn! It is worth though.
It starts off as a 1000% modifier though after all the buffs and level 120 passives, it goes up to a 2600% modifier and therefore is the best one to use. It also increases his own LB gauge by 5.

His only CD ability, Prepare to fall!, is used at the beginning of our rotation but can be included more than once.
It's available at Turn 1 with a 5 turn cooldown, has a 2 turn AoE 65% fullbreak which can be used to either start off the fight for slower breakers or as emergency break. It also comes with an AoE 2 turn 120% light + dark imperil and fills his own LB gauge fully.
After its first use it becomes significantly worse and on average shouldn't be used anymore, but if you want Sephiroth to AoE Reraise for 1 turn, you can use this and afterwards Dark Blessing.

Lastly his Limit Burst is an AoE 3500% finisher that increases all of his chain modifiers by 300% except for Dark Blessing for the rest of the fight and can't be dispelled, which means you'll most likely use it once unless you die.

How does he fare in the meta?
In terms of damage he's really really close to Riku but slightly behind him, but personally I think his kit overall is actually better than Riku's. Well...

His kit is a lot more versatile with both a good emergency ATK break and MAG break, not only ATK. He even has a 65% fullbreak occasionally, which really isn't all that bad if your fight doesn't go as planned.
Sephiroth also has occasional access to an AoE 1 turn Reraise, which, if you plan your fights and know you will need it, can be huge but otherwise also a total waste.
On top of it, he can always change his element from Dark to Light and vice versa mid fight.

The reason why I wouldn't rank him above Riku nor Lightning nor Bartz is... well, the lack of the guts passive and the lack of TDW. This sounds stupid but TDW units receive a huge bonus in survivability due to double IW enhancements and the ability to VERY EASILY cap their ATK stats if you want to and have some STMRs.
This means Sephiroth will die a lot easier to many trials than the others.

However, if you can ensure him to survive, you can fully enjoy him. Just like Riku he deals fantastic damage that's literally on par with Radiant Lightning while being incredibly easy to use.

His TMR is fantastic if you use any units with Katanas. 30 ATK and 20% ATK AND HP is a very high value for a TMR.
His STMR for now is only being used by him, which isn't bad per se but if you want to, you can prepare your Auron for the future. Auron at some point will become a breaker who deals huge amounts of damage for what he is with a 18500% finisher and pretty strong chains while focusing on TDH, so this isn't all too bad.
In general his STMR isn't that great though despite having 172 ATK and 30% ATK. Simply because not many units will use it.

    Conclusion:
In my opinion it's a pretty unspectacular banner for everyone who isn't into Kingdom Hearts. Why?
These two units are strong damage dealers but don't bring anything new, anything exciting to the table. Riku especially is a very bland unit with nothing going on outside of dealing damage and it's quite a similar concept for Sephiroth.
His access to chaining families is debatable since his best chaining partners are almost always himself. So unless you're using him as a friend his access to chaining families isn't that useful as of right now, might change in the future.
If you want to chase STMRs, I can say that Riku's is great and Sephiroth's generally underwhelming and unfortunately for TMRs it's exactly the other way around where Riku's TMR is unusable for everyone but him but Seph's TMR can be really good on many many TDW units.
That being said I'm also not really convinced on the step up banners which are just the regular ones, so nothing exciting.
That's why I said this banner's theme isn't really excitement... unless you love Kingdom Hearts. If you do, feel free to pull, these units deal a lot of damage!

Also, can we please raise our Gungnirs? I want the Story Reset and the 7* awakening missions where you get rewards like 2x and 5x UoCs depending on how many 7 star units you've actually obtained.
Also there's like a mini Ring of Dominion in there.

If you don't know what I'm refering to:

I was really tempted to pull for the nostalgia, but I guess I will save for WoL or any other useful unit.

Thank you for your review as always meme!

Does it really matter? This in not JP and they're on top in GL right now. I expect they won't be the top when they receive their future buffs lest Gumi loses money for not making something slightly better to release new.

Also, great review Meme, thanks as usual!

Thanks for the review, @Memelord. With no intention of pulling, I got a Sephiroth (KH) today to go with the Sora and Cloud (KH) from their first banner. I’d prefer to use them as seven stars, but I didn’t want to blow through resources on this banner. What is your best guess as to our having their prisms available in the Trust Master Coin Exchange Shop? I know that GL is a different game, but do you think we would ever see those prisms?

Judging from our current available ones and that KH is a sqex game I'm pretty confident to say they will come at some point

Thanks for replying - I was feeling the same way and just wanted to see if anyone shared in the optimism! I would finally have something to spend all of these coins on, but the units will probably be (very) power creeped by then!

Thanks for the review! I did one lap hoping for a pair of Riku as I love Kingdom Hearts, only got the one. Not willing to go all in, I have the one for my collection and that's enough. In the process though I snagged a second Bartz so I'm pretty excited about that.

Yeah, if you got a second Bartz there's not reeeeeally a reason to chase another Riku, especially if said Bartz was obtained recently.
Grats on the collection Riku, though! :D
