Maybe. Many gatch games can't even run in China. Instead Chinese companies for a while now have just reverse engineer them and make their own. They were already talking last year that it had been having a big affect on gatcha games. So some games could be affected by this new change, but will enough of them over what has already happened? And what, if anything, will they change in response?

This is the big problem and it is not limited to just games. Every product has this happen. I watched a report on a business owner a few years back that made ceramic curling irons. He had them produced in china. The factory was making extras of the exact same iron and selling them at a lower price with a different name. So he was competing against own product and not making a profit off of it. He eventually brought production back to the US. It happens to everything that allows china to touch it. And people need to remember that the factories are NOT owned by people, they are owned by the government(or ministers/generals).

All Games that are released in China / produced in China / planned to make a China version take a huge hit
Its not the english Justice System that takes forever to do something, that is a new rule that will go in effect when China wants it

Yup. Manufacturing anything in china is giving them free access to copy it and either make a cheap knockoff version or just blatantly copy the item and undercut prices, the chinese government has no issues at all when it comes to theft be it IP or actual physical objects.

stop letting the kids support micro transactions in games that dont have base content worth the cost of game becasue its their parents money :|

I actually know some friends family members who let their kids spend $200 on games that they play for a month and never touch again..

Every kid has a cell phone and they are glued to their phones 24 hours a day. If you take away their phones they scream bloody murder and will call their parents to have a parent teacher conference with you. It's bad right now, but this policy is going to do nothing whatsoever. Nobody buys software here anyway, they just steal it off official Chinese websites (because everyone uses a highly modified Android OS). If game companies suddenly can't have players under 18 after the kids finish school, they'll figure out a way to get these kids their drip drip of games... there is no way on China's grey earth they will lose that market, when that is pretty much their BIGGEST market.

It's like when China outlawed console games in the 90s. So everyone just stole the games and played on emulators, which then sieved into Hong Kong and created an entirely new global piracy market. It's just a dumb idea for have these kinds of regulations. I doubt anyone is going to enforce them. Seems like it's mostly for the government to say "well, we did do something, so stop yelling at us."

I remember back in 2003/2004 pirated games had their own dedicated national TV channel. That's how nuts this kind of policy is.

Looks like the original statement from the CCP government portal is basically a recommendation infographic to companies. It doesn't carry any weight at all, just a memo that this kind of policy is being discussed and this is what they want game companies to do (although they can't really enforce it).

What they are actually announcing is a national identification system, which is far more concerning...

All I can think of is that South Park ep a few weeks ago with the Chinese guy alternating between laughing and sternly crossing out words.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if these sort of rules came to more countries, that is if they were going to even be enforceable lol. I've lost count of the amount of times I've rolled my eyes when I read the typical story of 'kid spends x on game, parents in outrage demanding money back as he stole their card' type story's

It is a parents own fault for NOT enabling whatever parental controls the device has available.

    Super wrong!!!
If you buy spyro / crash team racing or any other "for Kids" games (on the package every age/ 3+/6+) then there shouldnt be ANY mental manipulating/damaging things in the game (for that reasons we have age restrictions/rules/laws) but the companies that enforce them are owned by those damaging companies...

Edit: best example NBA 2k20 the ESRB didnt even play the game thats what they said after backlash but age for this game = for everyone
