I'm here to give some hints on how to survive the first turn of the battle against the Ice Bird trial.

First let's undertand the issue with it. The boss has a pre-emptive turn, on this turn, the boss cast AoE reflect on itself and its minions, then it cast an AoE ice+wind magic on it's own team. The magic is reflected and then 3 hits are randomly distributed on the party. Those hits can target the same unit more than once and they aren't affected by draw attacks or camouflage.

Besides this attack, the boss spam some normal attacks and the birds use the Crystal Lazer, a single target magic attack.

Due to the random nature of the reflected spells, the most popular strategy to survive the first turn is to simply reset the fight until you get good RNG and have the key units to survive, since you need both your damage dealers to survive the first turn.

So we will work to minimize the random factor for the first turn.

    - First you will need a bulky tank that has Draw Attacks.
There aren't many options here: Medius, Snow and Wilhelm are the only options that can go to 6★.
Edit: Barusa from King's Knight has also draw attacks.
Edit 2: White Knight Noel has 30% draw attacks, along with 25% Ice and Wind resist.
The objective of the tank is to passively draw the most of the ST hits as you can, you will also need either Pink Striped Float or the Moogle Plushie to increase the draw attack chance.
To increase the chance of your party surviving, a Magic Tank (currently only Mystea) or another Draw Attacks tank is advised. You want the damage dealers and healer to avoid all damage from the ST actions if possible.

The rest of your team should be 1 healer + 2 chainers.

    - Second you need to stack as much Ice and Wind Resist as you can.

The bird's killing attack has dual element, so to fully resist it you need a total of 200% resist in both Ice and Wind, with this you can completely avoid the RNG factor of the fight. Obviously, getting complete immunity is very hard and will for sure require some higher rarity TMs, such as Marie's Rainbow Robe or Garnet's Melody of Life.

If 200% on 3 unit is unreachable (and probably will be), ~150% will be enough to avoid anything besides the worse RNG (like the 3 hits going on the damage dealers).

So let's see what can be used to reach this value (i will list the total value of ice and wind resist):

    Espers (50%)
    - Shiva (advised for your healer)
    - Tetra Sylphid (advised for your main damage dealer since it has bird killer)
    - Fenrir (for your second damage dealer)

    Weapon
    - Ulric's Kukri (20%, event)

    Shields
    - Dragon Shield (30%, aurora key, quest)
    - Snowstorm Shield (60%, event)
    - Ice Shield (50%, chests, craftable)
    - Hero's Shield (40%, trial)

    Head
    - Festival Cap (10%, event)
    - Cat-ear Hood (20%, fat chocobo)
    - Frozen Crown (30%, this trial, relevant only for friend unit if you can ask them to gear a unit)
    - Soul Crown (10%, event)
    - Kingsglaive Hood (10%, event)
    - Dragon Helm (20%, quest)
    - Survivor Helm (10%, colosseum)
    - Judge Helm (30%, 5★ TM - Zargabrestch)

    Body
    - Festival Robe (10%, event)
    - Azure Gilet (10%, chest)
    - Minerva Bustier (60%, 3★ TM - Celes)
    - Dragon Mail (30%, black key)
    - Ice Armor (50%, quest, craftable)
    - Force Armor (10%, trial)
    - Heavy Drake Armor (20%, event)
    - Snow Gown (30%, event)
    - Sara's Robe (30%, 3★ TM - Sara)
    - Rainbow Robe (60%, 5★ TM - Marie)

    Accessories
    - Frost Ring (10%, chest)
    - Glacier Ring (15%, chest, aurora key)
    - Icy Veins (10%, event)
    - Ice Rosetta (25%, 5★ TM - White Knight Noel, limited)
    - Squall Ring (10%, chest)
    - Tornado Ring (15%, chest, quest)
    - Tourmaline Ring (15%, quest)
    - Cloak of Flames (20%, 4★ TM - Rubicante)
    - Zephyr Cape (20%, chest)
    - Elven Gloves (30%, event)
    - Sorcerer's Cape (20%, quest)

    Materia
    - Cold Defense (5%, +10% HP, event)
    - Heart of Wind (5%, +10% HP, event)
    - Ice Resistance +15% (15%, event)
    - Wind Resistance +15% (15%, event)
    - Hydaelyn Guard (20%, Raid TM)
    - Melody of Life (40%, 4★ TM - Garnet)
    - Magic Sanctuary (50%, 5★ TM - Kryla, limited)

    Useful Gear:
    - Equip H Armor (To equip Ice Armor, 3★ TM - Firion)
    - Equip H Shield (To equip Ice Shield, 3★ TM - Charlotte)
    - Equip L Shield (To equip Snowstorm Shield, aurora key)
    - Gauntlets (To equip Snowstorm Shield, mama chocobo)

Now it is a matter of combining the gear to get the most ice/wind on your units. Your priority should be your damage dealers and healer, since they are required to survive the pre-emptive attack in order to kill the boss. Just be careful to not drop the damage dealers ATK too much while gearing for resist, even though the boss have an extreme weakness to fire, you still need a reasonable ATK to be able to one hit KO the bird.

I still haven't managed to do the 5 man, besides ice resist, is def or spr more important? when I did it with 6 units, I brought 4 dps, Ayaka and WoL but I can't duplicate the success with 5 man by dropping 1 dps (sacrificial).

DEF is more important, as the Ice/Wind attack is Magic Type with Physical Damage.

About the DPS, two enhanced Agrias with ~800 ATK and fire weapon should be enough to OHKO the bird.
I did it with enhanced Orlandeau with ~830 ATK + 2 Killers (Bird Killer from Tetra Sylphed and Spirit Killer Materia) and a Dark Veritas with ~440 ATK. (fully geared for Ice/wind resist since he wasn't potted and his HP was very low) Any physical chainer with ~800 ATK that can perfect chain using fire weapons should be enough.

    10% Ice resist + 10% Wind resist = 20% total resist.

Sorrry sir. Im too focusing on my mystea with Dark resist without shield. Since it written 20%, i thought equipping esper + goblez event accessory + this knife reach 100% .

Does spirit slayer and bird killer stack against it since it is dual race?

Stupid bird. Tried him for the first time yesterday and the closest I got was 13%. I can't push through enough damage with my own team. I'm waiting for a friend to have the right setup to try again.

Thanks for the list. I found paralysis resist helps too especially if you healer is blown up.

So, to make Agrias viable for this, ~800 ATK, fire weapon and.. what else? Is Dual Wield or TDH required or can I get away with just DH? This is assuming a strong friend chainer.

two Agrias DW and ~800 ATK and fire element, since you need a full 27 hits chain. No need for friends, the two agrias alone is enough.

Yeah except I'm f2p and only approaching rank 50, so all I can hope for is gearing up one chainer. With my current pulls I have two options, Crimson Saber DH (Bartz TMR) or Crimson Saber + Aqua Blade (Camille TMR) DW, which do you think I should go for?

Since it's dual race, the effectiveness of each is halved.

No, Aqua Blade is water element weapon. Since it has innate 300% water resistance, your damage is halved.

Found this on yt and want to share this info.
Dont know if it is valid since need to cact some very winds but he survives in video so it seems working.
Key stuff, need combined 300 resistance for wind and ice on magic tank and healer.
    Need ailment protection against paralyse.
Need tank with innate provoke like Wilhelm. (he uses Snow)
Need two veritases of wind/heavens for dmg and they do the heavenly wind skill.
(Wind physical damage (2.5x) with ignore DEF (25%) to all enemies 10hits 45mp)
Veritas of heavens is used because he get healed with wind dmg and the attack is hybrid wind/ice dmg.
The strat looks fine so far and i intend to test it as soon i cact my very winds up both to lvl 100 :(

I geared the heck out of Dragonlord, it took about 4-5 turns to get it where he and Ayaka both survived. She cast purify to get rid of his paralysis then he was able to one shot the dirty bird with kafrizzle+2. I knew there was a reason I awakened that skill! Also there were the 2 little birds, ayaka revived everyone the next turn then took those out with Reagan and kafrizzle again.

I tried to upload a pic but apparently it’s too large. My Esper is tetra sylphid, equip is...
    Mateus’s malice
    Glory of evil
    Crown of the covenant
    Strategic cape
    Magistral crest
    Snowbear.

    Abilities are....
    Rod mastery
    Barbs spirit
    Mages resolution
    Dual wield

Took a long time to get all those together!

a friend of mine has Dragonlord and it was amazing!

of my team, only Tidus and Sephiroth survive the Preemptive attack, then Scintilla kills the little sh*t bird and with remedy removes paralize from dragonlord and Tidus's get pump make the kafrizzle make like 55mil mag damage lol
