EDITING WILL TAKE PLACE, PICS ADDED, ETC. Need to make pics smaller I think, still working...

Hi guys, sorry for the delay, real life decided it wanted some of my time ::rudecat15::

Just like many others I was gutted when my Tidus stopped making enemies die and instead decided he wanted little bits of my soul to die. So I paid a visit to that ethereal realm known as the internet and spend about 4 hours (I'm really not skilled at this kind of thing; no tech wizardry skills in my locker) practising and failing and getting horribly confused until I could finally get Tidus and his buddy Tidus to make sparks fly again.

Blue Tack might be handy, or a piece of string, or a bit of sticky tape or post-it note or just a finger mark on the screen you can see. Thanks @Squall for the note that a Sharpie can do the job too, drawn directly onto the screen, not a screen protector!

    Some notes:
    1. This method requires some patience. Then some luck. But only once! If you get it done, it's done. I'm investigating ways to remove luck from the equation but no joy yet.
    2. It's not as simple as swiping down and clicking onward. New habit to learn, but not excessively tedious.
    3. We're using Switch Control and at first you'll hate it.
    4. It's not nearly as versatile as our old method; your main chainer and companion unit can only go in your chosen positions on the battlefield unless you want to make more switches. Which is admittedly kinda easy once you've done this once, but I'm lazy.

And now to see if I can make this actual guide...

FFBE Preparation Video of the route
    Load FFBE
    Click Units
Select a party with your chainer in your chosen slot. I chose slot 5
    Click Home
    Click Vortex
    Click Exchange
Run South of King Mog and out of the door, down steps to the right and right towards the library
Click the Book of Recollection (on the table)
Choose any chapter you like with Battle: Yes
Select a companion to match your chainer
    Depart!
    Skip through any story
    Set up chaining moves
Select one enemy (tap on one)
Put FFBE into the background (double tap Home button)

    iOS Preparation (Zoom)
Orient device in portrait [] (this is important as FFBE plays in portrait not landscape)
    Go to Settings
    Go to General
    Go to Accessibility
    Go to Zoom
Increase Maximum Zoom Level to about half way
Turn On (at this point your device might zoom in; panic not, just double tap with 3 fingers)
Turn On Show Controller (we'll need this briefly to navigate. Position it wherever you like)
Select Zoom Region -> Full Screen Zoom (if you device did not default to this)
Return to FFBE (double tap Home, tap on FFBE)
    Triple tap with 3 fingers
    Zoom In
Use Zoom Controller to navigate between your 2 chainers (very bottom right of screen for me)
Place some kind of mark between 2 chainers (I used line of Blue Tack)
    Marker (Small).JPG

    Triple tap with 3 fingers
    Zoom Out
Return to Settings (double tap Home, tap on Settings)

    iOS Preparation (Switch Control)
    Go to General
    Go to Accessibility
Under Interaction select Switch Control (do not turn On yet!)
    Select Recipes
    Create New Recipe...
Click Name and type in a name (I used "Tidus", 'cause my imagination is weak)
    Click Assign a Switch...
    Click Full Screen
    Click Custom Gesture
You're faced with a strange blank (ish) page.
Triple tap with 3 fingers and Zoom In
Your zoom should orient to where it was when you were on FFBE (bottom right for me)

Now it gets tough. It's trial and error, rinse and repeat, pain in the rear time...

We're now effectively (we can't see FFBE of course) zoomed in so much we can use 2 fingers to tap as fast as possible without the device believing we're trying to swipe.
You need to tap as fast as possible on both sides of the mark you made earlier.

You'll see blue dots appear where you tap, which then turn grey.
    The Dots (Small).JPG
    Press Stop.
Use Zoom Controller to navigate to top right and tap Save
Go to FFBE (double tap Home, tap FFBE)
You should now be back to your set up chainers
Enable Switch Control (triple tap Home)
    Tap anywhere on screen
Turn off Switch Control!! (triple tap Home)

    Did it Spark?
If yes, test a couple more times. Rotation is: Reload//Triple tap Home//Tap anywhere//Triple tap Home. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TRIPLE TAP HOME!! At this point feel free to turn off Zoom.
If no, rotation is: Reload//Double tap Home//Settings page//Custom Gesture//3-finger double tap//Navigate to position//Tap above and below mark//Stop//Navigate to Save (top right)//Save//3-finger double tap//Double tap Home//FFBE//Triple tap Home//Tap anywhere//Triple tap Home

HINT: I used the middle knuckles of my index finger and middle finger, spread apart, like I was rapping on a door - my finger tips felt too soft; moisturising is bad! I felt like my bare knuckles gave better contact.

Seems I can reserve posts, apologies if this is greedy, but I want to make this as user friendly as possible

Same, I had already spent upwards of an hour and got a switch that sparks maybe 20% of the time. It's really inconsistent.

Works fine for Onion Knight, but not for Tidus.

Thanks for all the testing and work. Okay, I’m familiar with switch control. I use it for TM farming. So in this setup, you’re using the zoom feature to lag the app in conjunction with switch control to make sure the taps register as fast enough for spark? I just want to make sure the zoom part is mandatory as this complicates things for me. I’ll be interested in testing this out when I get home from work today.

Nope, the zoom part is required because when you try to tap both chainers quickly and they're close together iOS will register the two taps as a swipe rather than 2 separate taps; something to do with 300ms gap. Once they're far apart the distance created stops it from registering as a swipe.

If it only worked 20% of the time it failed to work:

Okay, got it. I’ll attempt tonight. Is there any way you can set your phone to record a video while you are doing the actual spark chaining? That would help me out. Is the zoom only turned on while you record the switch or do you need to zoom while playing prior to firing up the switch to make them spark? I’m sorry, I’m having a little trouble visualizing everything.

Good spot! I forgot to mention that after you've got the Spark you can turn off zoom any time you like. I just left it on for convenience as I was still making the guide.

EDIT - I've never recorded but I'll see if I can. It'll just shop the 2 taps going off on the Tidus.

    Here it is

Strangely it doesn't show the notification of Switch Control on screen, but you can kinda tell by the long pauses as I wait for it to enable.

maybe will try more later, but I don't have high hopes

If it's not 100% reliable, try again. Took me an hour yesterday, but only 4th try today when making the guide.

I just tried again and made one that's about 50% reliable. Deleted it.

I remember taking an hour or two just to setup switch control for TMR farming.
Perhaps on the weekend, I’ll take courage again for 1-2 hours of setting this up for spark chaining.

Thanks for this by the way! ::up:: I have high hopes that I’ll make this work too just like yours.

Thanks for this. I remember doing Switch Controls before and was about to get TT about 50% of the time. I didn't do the zoom trick though. Question for you, when I do the zoom trick, every time I click my recipe it makes two blue circles like i'm clicking twice, basically it thinks i'm swiping down. Any idea what this is happening?

what makes me sad is that I´ll certainly need to do it twice... lol.

one for when I take 2 chainers from my own, another one from when I take one mine, one from friend... lol
