I’ve seen quite a few mixed opinions surrounding the latest GLEX Latent Ability update, so I wanted to try my hand at writing a review for her to potentially dispel some of the misconceptions I've been seeing.

    Pre-Latents:
Reberta has had quite a rocky history, as many of you are probably aware. She can’t seem to go a full day without something in her kit behaving incorrectly, whether it’s bad chaining frames, her unique jump-chaining mechanics being wonky, or her LB just being plain broken, Reberta always seems to be a point of controversy. Despite all this, she wasn't in an altogether terrible position following her last rework. In terms of survivability, she came with relatively average base stats, and some decent bulk passives at 60% HP, 60% DEF, and 20% SPR, along with 50% resistances for 3 very common elements, which for a TDW unit are more than enough. As far as damage is concerned, she came with a very respectable 190% ATK, 400% extra jump damage when using her TMR, and innate dual wielding with 100% TDW, as well as the all-important 6x chain mod increase. Altogether, besides SPR maybe, very decent. Being able to equip both swords and spears, she even came with a plethora of elemental weapon options, being able to utilize just about every element except wind and dark without a substantial loss of damage. She did leave something to be desired as far as killers go, with just a 150% dual dragon killer when using her TMR, but that’s not exactly deal-breaking.

In terms of skills, Reberta brought a few different tools, although practically none of them were used very much. She could chain using Bolting Strike, Divine Ruination, and Aureole Ray, even if Bolting Strike was the only relevant family of the three. It’s probably worth noting that her “Breath” skills and "Mystic Thrust" are all technically magic attacks with ATK scaling, which gives her the niche of being the only physical chainer I can think of to ever to kill Bloody Moon. She also came with a somewhat niche 5x modifier jump with an attached 2 turn 200% Human Killer buff, which thankfully is a much more common enemy type. Of course, the real highlight of her kit was her eponymous “Death Crimson,” a 1.5x jump which became a 10x jump for 5 turns after using “Crimson Raid” cooldown, and featured a rather unique auto-cast Bolting Strike chain on the turn she landed, which, assuming you could actually get her jump to land in time, would take away a lot of the burden of setting her up to chain cap. She managed to stay relevant for a while due to her decent damage and extremely simple rotation, but sadly fell off as newer finishers like Freya and CG Noctis came to overshadow her. So have her Latents given her the edge she needs to even the playing field now?

    Post-Latents:
Basically every single part of Reberta's kit has gotten an upgrade of some kind, and she even gets a few new toys to play with. All her skills now have higher modifiers, and her new cooldown skill gives her a 250% undispellable ATK buff right out of the gate, while also imperiling her 3 main elements by 100%. All together, a solid bump in potential damage. She also has a new W-cast skill which allows her to use two different non-jumping abilities in the same turn, which helps a lot with her setup turns. Finally, the rest of her Latent bonuses went into some very much appreciated stat increases. She now comes with substantial bulk at 110% HP, 110% DEF, and 70% SPR, which is just ridiculous, even with her just-ok base stats. Her damage stats are similarly impressive, at 240% ATK and 450% bonus jump damage. For those of you that farmed Kimahri’s STMR (unlike me), it's BiS on her, and another easy 50% right there. Sadly her killer passives are just as lacking as before, although her Human Killer jump got the single biggest modifier increase of all her jump skills.

Speaking of which, I suppose it’s time to finally address the elephant in the room. Yes, her main skill only got a 2x modifier increase. On paper, that looks pretty terrible. That being said, the thing to remember with jump-type skills is, the base modifier is only half of the picture. The jump modifier stacks multiplicatively with the skill modifier, so a 2x increase paired with a 5.5x inherent jump modifier balances out to an effective 11x modifier increase, which, as you’ll see, equals a very noticeable increase in overall damage when you also factor in her higher ATK buff, self-imperils and overall higher ATK passives.

    Build, Rotation, and Maths
    Right hand: Longinus (FFBE) HP +20%, ATK +20%, ATK +190, P/M Fairy Killer +75% (IW: HP/ATK +20%)
Left hand: Crimson Blood HP +20%, ATK +20%, ATK +145, Jump Damage +50%, P/M Dragon Killer +50% (IW: HP/ATK +20%)
Head: Obsidian Helm MP +20%, ATK +42, DEF +20, LB Fill Rate +50%
Body: Catastrophic Vest HP +15%, ATK +30, DEF +50, SPR +30
Accessory 1: Flapping Wings Jump +50%, ATK +30
    Accessory 2: Dragoon’s Gauntlet Jump +100%, DEF +10
Materia 1: Sworn Six’s Pride: Wind ATK +50%, Jump +25%
Materia 2: Dual Form TDW +100%
Materia 3: Crossing the Land ATK +70%
    Esper: Titan HP +131, MP +46, ATK +103, DEF +88, MAG +43, SPR +62
    Total: HP: 14701, MP: 716, ATK: 2914, DEF: 640, MAG: 262, SPR: 455, Jump +625%

Note: Build assumes you have no other ATK% IW stats. Realistically, SSPW would be replaced with Master Dragon Knight from 5* Freya, and Reberta's damage would be slightly higher.

For those of you that are confused how a skill with a fourth of the modifier of Freya's powered up jump still manages to achieve 78% of the damage, there's a few different factors at play. Chief amongst them being that Reberta is inherently a TDW unit, while Freya obviously isn't. Freya sheds a lot of her potential damage by trying to force the "square peg" of a TDH kit into a TDW "round hole". As a result, there's a lot less wiggle room to focus on Freya's ATK and Jump stats, which means less of a multiplier to effectively make use of her jump's massive base mod. On a related note, Freya also lacks Reberta's 6x chain mod passive, which is another point in Reberta's favor in terms of the final effective skill modifier. The final thing working against Freya is the fact that calculations only ever allow a maximum external imperil of 75%. Since Reberta now comes with a higher self-imperil which she can comfortably fit in her rotation, that ends up skewing the numbers even more in her favor. We end up with final effective modifiers of 3850x for a DW Freya vs 2160x for Reberta, a much smaller gap than you might think initially. Factor in Reberta's higher ATK stat, and she ends up getting pretty damn close in terms of damage. That being said, if we ran these simulations with full whale setups, Freya would probably be outputting two to three times the damage Reberta would. However, the purpose of these reviews is to be as favorable to the wider majority as much as possible, and in terms of how user-friendly the units are, Reberta packs a lot of advantages that Freya simply doesn't have access to.

    Summary:
So as you can see, Reberta doesn’t quite match Freya in terms of raw burst potential, but assuming you can maximize her damage at least for turn 1, she has a definite advantage in terms of overall damage output. She’s also extremely cheap to build, requiring just two other 5* TMRs to reach optimal performance. She also has the benefit of having an extremely simple rotation (which thankfully meant less math for me), and slightly more consistent damage output compared to a unit like Freya. Reberta is a simple girl: she sees enemy, she buffs, then she jumps, then jumps again, rinse repeat. She also has the added benefit of now being a solid chainer thanks to her modifier buffs, with her DPS as a chainer being almost as high as her DPS as a Dragoon. So is she suddenly the Queen of the Finishers? Not exactly. Is she a competent alternative to Freya? Absolutely. Will she outperform Regina or Noctis against any of the races they specialize in? Unless it's a Human, no, you're still better off using one of those two. What Reberta offers is a very simple, very reliable general-use finisher, who can also provide respectable chain damage in emergency situations (and destroy celestial bodies as needed).

edit: as @Pristan pointed out, she has a plethora of elemental weapon options. I’ve added this information to her pre-latent section.

edit 2: I've made some spreadsheets demonstrating Reberta's damage as a finisher, as a chainer, and specifically as a chainer using pure magic damage. Here's the link in case anyone is interested:

So how'd I do guys? This is my first time attempting a review like this, and I spent hours on it trying to get it just right. Overall, I think I'm happy with how it came out. That being said, let me know if there's any mistakes and/or things that should be added or removed.

I like it. It is very useful for newer or casual players who can’t build Freya,Cid or AC Cloud out approaching BIS. If only her damage mechanic was useful for something besides Bloody Moon...

I've been trying her out all day and boy am I glad you brought up how simple she is to gear. I would also note that she excels at dragons too with the passive buried in her kit, the bonus on her TMR, and easy ability to get that additional dragon killer materia on her. She can even wear Aelia's armor for more without any real issue.

And I've been putting elemental weapons in the other hand for her for all the Chamber of Vengeful... swords are a real bonus for elemental damage choices.

I do note her innate 150% dragon killer in the pre-latent section, but perhaps it could stand to be reiterated. Also, you bring up a very good point about gearing her with swords for easy elemental building, although one hand is kinda locked to using her own TMR if you don’t have her STMR, due to how good her Trust Ability is. And losing the weapon scaling of Longinus would definitely hurt her overall damage output. Still, if you’re unable to bring an external imbue, it would probably be worth it anyway.

I’m happy I managed to convince you of Reberta’s worth. I really wanted to try this after watching everyone roasting her latents for not improving her jumps enough. Funny enough, she still beats out Cloud (FFVII:AC) in terms of burst damage. Even at the peak of his rotation, he still falls a good 1b short of her, and most of the time he’s doing about 20% less burst damage. Now, he does have the benefit of chaining on his off-turns, and the math doesn’t take any killers into account, but I still find it amusing how much people have been disparaging poor Reberta when she’s genuinely a good unit.

Thank you, indeed. Reberta has been a favourite to many. Likely her final hurray, as said. ::bard::

Yet, I ... dont know. Running the builder with "Death Crimson", but ...
    ... What? Serious?

Make sure you build it using her 250% ATK buff, otherwise it’ll skew the results of the builder. I learned that the hard way when I was trying to figure out how the builds were determined in Furcula’s sheet.
Check the maths section if you don’t believe me. Her highest burst is 53,694,137,863, compared to Cloud’s highest burst, which is 51,902,498,352 on Furcula’s spreadsheet. Tbh, maybe I should’ve put him in the damage comparisons. He just kinda slipped my mind somehow ::rofl::

of course i believe you, ha. Again, I am thankful just to be able to somehow use Reberta again. Given how so many of us have (too) many keys, I latent-ed her in a heartbeat. ::blackmage:: Thankful of this post of yours too. ::up::

Just that the builder didnt seem to hype "Death Crimson"'s numbers, for me. Cloud is also likely t1, or t2 after CD, so, like you said earlier. All cool.

Keep in mind that AC Cloud, Freya Anne Cid are all very scaleable with better gearing and will double or better the bursts on furcula’s sheet. Reberta unfortunately can’t do that.

    Great write up!

I don't know if you have time for it or not. There is another unique point about Reberta. She also a decent/good (depends on how you look at it) pure chainer. (She deals around 22B dmg per turn which is around XWQL, but still only a 50%-75% of top dmg dealers.)

This opens up another possible strategy that I think very unique to her is that you can use her as a normal chainer, until the turn you want to burst then switch to Jump (use other units to do support-chaining for that turn). I haven't tested it yet, but the potential here is very unique and interesting.

Would you be able comment on that ? May be compare her burst with other chainers ? From what I see on Furcula's sheet, only Odin Raegen, Freya, AC.Tifa, AC.Cloud, Sieg/Ignacio, and King Bradley have burst dmg more than 50B with TMR build. So there is that...

Great review, the unit itself... not so much, Reberta to the trash can she goes.

I touch on that a tiny bit near the end, but honestly her pure chainer rotations are so convoluted it would’ve taken me the entire day to incorporate them. If you’d like, I can try to give her chain numbers a closer look tomorrow and let you know how well she works that way.

I also had the idea to take the whole “Reberta the mage” meme to the extreme and make a full section on her viability as a mage, if not an entire separate review. If that’s also something you’d like to see, let me know as well lol

Thanks a lot. I think it is all up to you. I don't want to barge in and tell you what to do, just some suggestion which may or may not be a good one tobeging with. If you think the point I brought up is not beneficial enough or don't want to do it, it is totally fine.

That being said, I thought Reberta has a very simple rotation (?)
Turn 1: Draconic Fury + Imbue
    Turn 2: Spiral Thrust + Mystic Thrust(37x + 48x)
    Turn 3: Mystic Assault x 2 (48x + 48x)
    Turn 4: Spiral Thrust + Mystic Thrust(37x + 48x)
    Turn 5: Mystic Assault x 2 (48x + 48x)
    Repeat
When you are ready for burst, just use Red Vengeance (10x jump since Draconic Fury which has been up already, as long as it is not turn 5n+1 or 5n).

I looooooved Reberta when she first came out. She was one of my first rainbows and she and Olive carried my team for a looong long time. But then 7* came and for some reason I never managed to pull a duplicate. I have about a dozen of her 100% TMR Moogles, farmed from various events, but I ended up with just a single lone Reberta :(

But she's undoubtedly one of my favourite units!
