    Mage Build
    Mages are the ones who will hit hard and even exploit elemental weaknesses. They can even go as far as to giving out status ailments as well. For a damage-dealing unit, you would like to stack MAG %. If you want your mage to survive longer and take less damage, then feel free to stack HP% and/or Def %. SPR% and MP% is also beneficial for a bigger MP pool and to help them take less magic damage.

    With his enhancements, he can deal so much damage with Wild Card having the unique ability of taking advantage of killer abilities and elements on weapons. His LB also does the same.

    TM: Acceptance is 30% with 20% MP. Please grab.

    Arena: Restores party's mp, can evade attacks as many times as he want with Wild Card, and his Tri-Beam Laser hits everyone. A monster when his abilities are enhanced. Recommended to use.

    Pros:
    High MAG damage skills.
    Recovers HP and MP through Life Hand and Spirit Hand.
    Wild Card allows him to deal damage and negate physical attacks for 2 turns.
    Wild Card works with Dual Wield, meaning this magic skill deals damage two times as though it is double cast.
    Wild Card works with Killer passives and elements from weapons.
    Great LB Gauge filler through Devotion.
    Can inflict Stop.
    Auto-Refresh.
    Ability-based, which means silence will not hinder him.
    Exclusive Materia, "Cut Cards" is better than Attack Hand.

    This woman... beast... beastly woman, is one of the best mages you can have in-game. She carry 60% MAG and she can dual cast black magic, mainly her Ultima. She is also great for using Magical Activation to boost her MAG and SPR by 80% and also strengthening her Chaos Wave from 1.8 to 3.6 modifier, 10 hits instead of 5 and also making the MP cost down to 0!

    TM: Soul of THamasa is a Dualcast with stats like Genji Glove is a Dual Wield with stats. This is actually great since it gives a lot of MP as well as DEF and SPR for mages and healers. It also mean an extra ability slot.

    Pros: 60% MAG and 50% SPR from passives.
    Immune to silence.
    Guardian Mog cures all of her ialments after a battle.
    Auto-Refresh.
    Can evade attacks (30% chance).
    Can dual cast black magic.
    Magical Activation boosts her MAG and SPR and strengthens her Chaos Wave.
    Can use Full-Life.
    Covers 1/2 of the elements (Fire, ice, thunder, light (Holy).
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons: Unable to dualcast her white magic spells; need to carry a Dualcast to do it.
    No ga-versions of thunder and ice.
    Maduin Guard is outbeat by other units' skills to boost element resistance such as CoD, Tilith and Marie.

    As a hybrid unit, she can even deal enough damage as on the magic side of things. She can MP drain and her Ice Block is stronger than a regular defend. Her Frost Flower Blitz is powerful, since it can lower an enemies' ice resistance by 50%. What is great about her is that her Duelist Pose to boost all of her equipment ATK and MAG by 100% and 50% respectively only if you are single-wielding will make you consider this route and on how to build her. Her LB is also great since it can inflict stop! When built properly, she deals the highest damage out of all units as of now.

    TM: Fryevia's Needle is a great Ice Sword and is great for Hybrid users such as herself and even Noctis. However, it is best for someone like the Lady Fryevia.

    Arena: Her passive to survive a fatal hit for 1 HP if it is above 20% can really decide the outcome. Since she can steal MP and also dodge physical AND magic attacks can make her as dangerous as Noctis. Her LB also can inflict stop as well to the whole team and she can inflict paralyze through Frost Flash. Units with Shiva may have a chance against her ice power.

    Pros: Own MP-regen: Icy Aura 7%.
    Resistant to blind, paralyze and confuse.
    Great ATK and MAG if you're single wielding and using a sword.
    Can evade physical and magic attacks through Flash Step.
    High modifiers.
    Through "I Shall Not Lose" can avoid a fatal attack if her HP is above 20%.
    Great in chaining, especially for dual wielding.

    Cons: High MP-usage.
    -Hard to build properly due to her hybrid nature
    -High maintenance for optimal gearing.

    As a mage, she is magnificent. She carries Dual Black Magic like Exdeath, but she also carries Ultima as a bonus. Dystopia increases damage with each consecutive use and if she is physically hit, she has a chance to counter with a magic move call Retaliate, hitting the whole enemy team. She also carries a Revoke passive to keep her immune to silence, paralyze and petrify as well as using Distress to inflict status ailments.

    TM: Dark Bonds is great for mages since they usually use a rod and wear a robe mainly, giving them 50% MAG; not stackable.
    Arena: Can inflict status ailments, deal chain damage with an enhanced Ultima and can counter with Retaliate while resistant to ailments which can hurt her. Top tier and recommended.

    Pros: Inflicts many status ailments.
    Lowers ATK and DEF by 40%.
    Immune to silence, petrify and paralyze.
    Auto-Refresh.
    Retaliate is a counter-attack magic.
    50% Dark resistance.
    Can steal MP through Osmose.

    Cons: Weak to holy.
    High MP usage through Dual Black magic usage.

    Vicious, deadly and lovely. Victoria is one of the best finishers and she will not lose her stacks from switching between Firaja and Overflow.

    TM: One of the best Robes you can grab. In term of MAG, it is stronger than the Rainbow Robe and it can even give dark resistance. Get for your mages.

    Arena: She has dual black magic, so she can double cast her spells at any time. She can also inflict stop as well. Nice to use in the arena.

    Pros: Powerful damage and stacking through Overflow and Firaja.
    Auto-Refresh.
    Dual Black Magic.
    Can decrease enemy's MAG and SPR by 40%.
    LB inflicts ailments.
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons: Super squishy with weak DEF.
    Not that many elemental magic to take advantage (1/4).

    She is almost the same as the original Dark Fina. What do you expect? She can charm an enemy though.

    TM: A suit with an auto-refresh, but for women. Great for female mages. Gender-restricted though. Up to you. Should still get.

    Arena: Since she is resistant to water, she can go up against Mercedes and Tidus. She just cannot use water attacks against those like Tidus. Even so, she is exactly like Dark Fina so she is recommended to use.

    Pros:
    Inflicts many status ailments.
    Lowers ATK and DEF by 40%.
    Immune to silence, petrify and paralyze.
    Auto-Refresh.
    Retaliate is a counter-attack magic.
    50% Dark resistance and water.
    Can steal MP through Osmose.
    Can charm.
    Can boost water resistance of team.
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons: Weak to holy.

    With enhancements, he is aiming to send everytning to the Void faster. He carries Trascender, allowing him to deal 50% more magic damage to birds, bugs, plants, beasts and even humans when max. This makes him even a force in PVP Arena. In addition, he is also able to Dual Black Magic and carry Meteor as well. Maxing Meteor strengthens the damage mod and gives it 3 hits as well. His stats are also high in def and SPR for a mage, meaning he is a mank/mage-tank. His LB at 6* also is capable of inflicting 4 random status ailments, making him extremely useful. Please grab Letters & Arms, Ingus' TM, for Exdeath, since it means 50% MAG for him for using a sword.

    LB can inflicts 4 status ailments!
    Auto-Regen and Osmose.
    Since he can use swords, consider Letters & Arms, even multiples of them.
    Meteor when max hits 3 times.

    Cons:
    Unable to wear hats or robes, losing out on MAG.
    Cannot doublecast magic skills like Wicked Light.
    MP-Heavy usage.
    Weak to Holy.

Be prepared if you're going against a magical enemy. His Fire from Below gets even powerful from 4-10 turns and he can also use Subdue to increase his own SPR by 60% while lowering the enemy by 40%. He can also Dualcast black magic!

    TM: Strongest Rod in the game. It even give HP% as well. Must grab.

    Arena: He can doublecast spells and he can also inflict stop. Feel free to use him. He is also going to be targeted less as well by the AI units.

    Pros: "I'll Never Die": 10% MP Regen.
    Insolent Fools: 75% less likely to be targeted.
    Dual Black Magic.
    Fire from Below is STRONGEST magic in-game when built up.
    Subdue strengthens his own SPR while weaken the enemy team's SPR.
    Time Stopper is good.
    Can maintain his MP easier than the other mages.
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons:
    Control is risky when going against magic enemies.
    Fire from Below can take some time to actually hit max peak; cannot cast a different spell or die and will not work against enemies who resistant or completely null against fire.
    Present your Offering is Suicide.

    It is good to have a dragon killer on your hands. Zyrus as a blood mage can take advantage over water and earth, while Blood Pulsar is his best skill as it stacks damage.

    TM: This is the second strongest rod with a dragon-magic killer passive. Please grab.

    Arena: Outside of dual casting Waterga and Stonga, he really cannot do much.

    Pros: LB allows him to double cast his blood spells while dealing damage and boosting his MAG.
    Easily can reduce enemy's water resistance through Flare.
    Dragon's Bane passive makes him powerful against dragons.
    Resistant to paralyze and silence.
    Strong MAG break 50% through Blood Curse.
    Dual Black Magic

    Cons: No Auto-Refresh.
    Very MP-heavy.
    Only covers 1/4 of the elements.
    LB takes 30 LB crysts to fill.

    As a red mage, she stands out. Her Thundaja stacks and she can also chain and heal through Northswain's Glow and Heaven's Fury.

    TM: A ring with a niche light resistance in addition to 30% MP and MAG. Feel free to grab.

    Arena: Very good in arena. She can chain and heal at the same time and most likely is the only thing she will be doing. Recommended.

    Pros:Heals while chaining.
    Auto-Refresh
    Gains ATK and MAG with a sword.
    Meditate increase MAG and SPR by 45% for 5 turns to whole team.
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons: Heaven's Fury and Northswain Glow unaffected by Dual Wield or Dual Cast.

    Terra is now ready to fight with her 6* power. With her Unlock Magic, she gets 50% more MAG and unlocks dualcast, Meteor and Chaos Wave as well. Her Lifesaver passive also give her 20% more MAG, with her passives, she gets 50% MAG to deal damage.

    TM: If you want one of your mage to deal more damage, feel free to grab this, especially for those who can dualcast. Otherwise, it is an average TM.

    Arena: She can be a good mage, but mainly when she use Unlock Magic for her other skills and she has a raise to take care of the Cloud of Darkness as well, lol. She's ok, but there are better.

    Pros: Unlock Magic boosts her MAG and gives her Dualcast, Meteor and Chaos Wave.
    50% MAG from passives.
    Can use Ray of Hope to cure everyone of status ailments.
    Carry a Full-Life (With Unlock Magic giving her Dualcast, she can dualcast this spell easily).
    Guardian Mog removes all status ailments on her after each battle.
    Lifesaver increases her LB gauge.
    Since she can use swords, consider using Letters & Arms, especially if you have multiples.
    Can use a light shield for more durability.
    Enhancements in the future.

    Cons: Cannot dualcast Chaos Wave.
    Only knows Firaga.
    No Curaja.
    Unable to wear robes, meaning the only clothes that give Terra MAG is Cupid's Robe, Brave Suit, Vampire Cloak, and Mage's Habit.

    Ariana came back to prove herself more useful, so she add some more kick in her soul (Hopefully, the will give her an exclusive ability like her counterpart, Dangerous Ariana). Chic Ariana is nice in focusing on earth and ice. What she is capable of doing is being able to drastically boost her MAG and her songs and attacks also can work in chains as well. Her exclusive equipment which gives her special bonuses also can be equip on others as well.

    TM: THis TM is a stronger version of Popoi's TM. More MP. YOu can grab.

    Arena: She can avoid the sleep and paralyze and silence will not shut down her songs at all. Just need to avoid petrify. She can just stick with Alluring Chorus to aoe everyone and since it can chain and ignore SPR, she may be able to help take down the team in 1-2 turns. Feel free to use.

    Pros: Can chain.
    Enhanced Verses are powerful.
    Hits 90% MAG through Enhanced Frozen Verse.
    Immune to paralyze and sleep.
    Exclusive equipment on her gives decent bonuses, including an auto-refresh.
    LB very powerful in reducing ice and earth elements on enemy team.

    Cons: No dualcast.
    Skills does not work with Dual Wield.
    Only covers 1/4 of elements.
    -_- Paralyze immunity on her exclusive armor is redundant and irrelevant since she is already immune to paralyze. Give her a better armor.

    Lunera can be a very good mage, seeing that her Aureole Ray can work in chains with 20 hits and her Arrow attacks does wonders being able to stack up damage.

    TM: This bow is powerful with 135 MAG and decent ATK. Instead of the regular killer passives against birds, it has a killer passive against demons. Grab for her.

    Arena: She could sing... or she can just use Aureole Ray over and over again. She's also good against the ailments which would shut her down. Fohlen and any wind and light units got nothing on her. Good to use. Recommended.

    Pros:
    Highest hits as of now with Aureole Ray.
    Elven Song great singing skill with buff and HP and MP regen.
    Resistant against silence, paralyze and petrify.
    Resistant to wind and light.
    MAG and SPR boost from using bows.
    Auto-Refresh
    Enhancements in the future!

    Cons:
    Barrage irrelevant.
    Singing locks her in for 3 turns.
    Will rely on attack skills more than magic spells.

    Since he can double cast his spells and do support, He fits in a mage-type party. He can definitely boost the team's MAG and even SPR. Even so, he can also boost a team's ATK by 50% and can also boost the team's element resistance by 40%. Having a GL exclusive ability to double cast any spell makes him be able to operate both as a mage and a support.

    TM: Heaven's Guidance is... hm... alright. You can put this on someone to have them take 40% less damage for two turns... but it should be three.

    Arena: With his GL exclusive Manipulator of Fate, he can operate not only as a support, but even more as a mage, double casting Meteor, heal, and any other spells you would like for him to use.

    Pros: Entrust
    Can boost ATK, MAG and even SPR by 50%.
    Can recover team's MP.
    Can increase team's resistance.
    Own Dual Cast ability.

    Cons: Cannot recover own MP through Angelsong.
    SO much MP used.
    Auto-buff will be override by a stronger buff.
    Nameless Song unneccessary and unhelpful since it locks him in.

    This small girl actually packs a powerful kick and a punch! Primm's hybrid is good to handle the enemies' element weakness and her strongest move is Saintly Beam. When the ability is max, it gives a 5x damage modifier in magic and it lowers light resistance of all enemies by 50%. She can also operate as a secondary support, with Invigorate for reviving and Healing Waters as a stronger cura. Exclusive from the Mana Mystery Event

    TM: This is very heavy in MP, since it is 30%MP and gives 10% MAG and SPR%. If you want to make sure your healers and mages do not run out of MP, then grab Primm's MP.

    Pros: Exclusive fist, Aura Glove, is best for Primm with great ATK, MAG and SPR.
    Covers 5/8 of the elements.
    Can revive with Invigorate. Max it to allow her to revive an ally to full HP.
    Good passives and recovers MP through Haunting Guard. Max it to allow her have 80% in ATK, MAG and SPR and a 10% MP-regen.
    Rush boosts ATK and MAG of the team by 40%.
    Can equip shields and helms.
    Healing Waters when max will have a 1000 HP, 5x healing modifier.

    Cons: Low hybrid modifiers.
    LB is a physical attack.

    You have three options: Ramuh, Diabolos, Shiva, the first being generally the best (highest MAG increase, nice skills like Drain, Osmose, Imperil, Dispel).

    Nice! I would also add Creepy Mask (event limited item) as an highest DPS option for mages, followed by Festival Cap (event limited item) and Circlet (story mode - Wind Shrine).

    Problem: Not everyone who came after the limited eventd would able to havr a shot in getting the items. My nrxt uofate after finishing the physical unit guide is to put a link to each unit for unit builds I create based on Non-TMS, TMS and event-limited items (And that definitely will take a while).

    That I will have to change and take out when I put it down with Krile back in December. This is back in December, but when I started creating Unit build guides, I started to think deeper about those who do not have them and I changed it so my mindset changed a lot compared to 2 months ago. The only exception is if I am talking about a limited unit and it comes with a limited-exclusive item such as Dangerous Ariana.

    There is no chest nor head item on tho se mage builds. Could you add/recommend something?
    Edit:
    I'm looking for a f2p no tmr or event exclusives for D. Fina and Exdeath. Have no physical dps worth and I rely heavily on them.

    I will do some updates,but I really need you to be patient. Combined with the fact I am creating other guide and build threads and calculations with life, this takes a lot of my time. I talked about the weapon and accessories and for mages like Krile, I get more specific since they have more than one way to build them.

    ExDeath is harder without Creepy mask+equip hat. Just use Golden Armor and Golden Helm

    Or Flame Plate / Ice Mail, if specific elemental resist is needed. Also, Survivor Helm from Colosseum is better, and there is Grand Helm from 2HD Trial, but that one usually goes to Cecil.

    Why is Exdeath above Ace in TM rankings and Exdeath above emperor in the non TM ratings? Ace can out damage all of the others currently (even trance terra... yes), you just have to treat him like a finisher and actually has same/similar frames as Luneth. It just takes some TMR's to do so which is why he is among the worst non tmr mages imo.
