NOTE: This is not an advertisement. Personally, I don't have high hopes for this but I figure otaku would know about this kind of stuff.

It was announced that Kimura Drink (Ramune soda) will be making a Sakura Soda. Anyone that's been around sakura knows that the pedals aren't sweet, like most plants, they're bitter (okay, so I have too much time on my hands!). Like Kimura's other drinks, this will be a sweet soda with the "authentic taste of spring" (TokyoTreat).

Ramune is actually very artificial tasting in all of its flavors (I've tried the original, melon, orange, etc). There's nothing wrong with it and it has a surprisingly low sugar content, but I can't help but feel their Sakura Soda will be similar. And of course there are numerous reactions to other sakura-based foods... none of them are indicative of "natural" taste:

There's already a Sakura flavored Pepsi out there I've never tried it. Have you? (Terrible review & taste test from Rocket News)

My ideal for sakura tasting foods? Obviously: it can't be realistic. But a muted artificial taste would not be bad. Nothing too sweet, but a slight taste of rose. In the video above the guy tastes sakura ice cream and describes it pretty nicely.

Let me know your thoughts on sakura foods and sodas. Is this a clever gimmick to create a niche market for a non-existent flavor or are some of these products good?

Cool stuff. Too bad there's not a sakura to be found around the place where i'm at, the sour + salty taste got me interested. I'm also too lazy to go all the way to japan, so there's that

I got to find you a Japanese market in Mexico City. There's got to be one.

TBH I went to the market and couldn't find anything Sakura flavored there. So it may be a specialty thing.

Edit- I just noticed the sneakers in the video. I need them.
