    Tank Units
The heavy hitters, protectors, and guardians of the group. They are there to ensure your team survives by any means necessary! Whether it is to provoke, draw attacks, or to mitigate the damage, they are there for you to fight through! Physical and magic tanks rely on HP, DEF, and SPR so that they themselves can also survive the attack.

Weapon Enhancements: For the tanks, a mace is the best as the special passive gives 30% HP. Your weapons should focus on HP to ensure they will always live no matter what. DEF and SPR are optional for them to take less damage.

    Top Magic Tanks
    #1: Awakened Rain:

The Dragonball Z Rain! He may even be our most powerful tank in general, PeriodT! At 7*, he can give resistance to all ailments and even stop and he can also mitigate damage by 90% for one turn to himself! Since he fills up his LB so fast with counters, he can use his Complete Awakening for even more survival!

TMR: Increases HP 20%, SPR 40%, and fill the LB gauge by 2! A top priority, especially for him, so please grab!

STMR: An upgraded version of Luneth's TM. It gives 30% elemental resistance to everything in addition to the flat-out 30 stat to everything. Now... what if we use this in the Arena... ::kefka::

Arena: Players' worst nightmare. He will block those Tornados and is one of the very few tanks who is meant to be used in the Arena. Fully recommended.

10-Man Potential: Just use him no matter what. he even comes with his own provoke, meaning he can take on the ST physical attacks as well for the team.

    Pros:
Own trial items will give him strong passives!
    Resists Fire and earth attacks.
Resists poison, blind, and petrify attacks.
Fast fill rate 100% and counter-LB gauge increase.
    Own Auto-Regen and Auto-Refresh.
Powerful provoke which mitigate damage 30% on him!
Purification powerful to resists all stop and ailment attacks!
Astral Guard powerful for that threshold with 90% damage mitigation!
Complete Awakening is a 200% stat buff to him with powerful general mitigation and powerful Regen and refresh!
He can aim to go Super Saiyan!
Energy Wall great for mitigating magic attacks by 80%!]
    Can chain with his SPR-attacks.

    Cons:
Spectral Field only lasts 1 turn.
Complete Awakening overpowers Scarlet Healing and his LB when it comes to the LB crysts.
Escort Leader overpowered by other unit's powerful buff skills.
Only have a MAG break skill.
Standout only lasts for 2 turns.

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Phoenix

Unit Synergy: LM Fina, Ayaka, Wilhelm, Demon Rain, Rinoa, Elephim, Roy, Zargabaath, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, HT Lid, Ignis, Marie, Ace, GL Sakura, Loren, Lunera, 2B, Viktor Marchenko, Rem, Soleil, Yan, Yuna, Rena, Eiko, Charming Kitty Ariana

    #2: Lilith:

Devilicious. Lilith is a magic tank who can sustain herself to the core with many counters and she can even operate as a physical tank when needed. She's also a charmer.

TMR: The mace has a great 95 SPR with the passive to give 20% HP and 10% DEF and SPR%. This mace can go great on even physical tanks but when it comes down to magic tanks, you would most likely put this on Lilith and maybe even Awakened Rain.

STMR: This is giving a reason as to why tanks should be using maces in the first place. A 30% boost in HP, DEF, and SPR with an increase to fire and dark resistance by 50%. I don't know if many of you were able to grab duplicates during the Halloween 2018 event but if you did, great job!

Arena: She is just as scary as Super Saiyan Rain. Actually, I would say she is scarier than him. She has better sustain than him, can charm the team, and can ALWAYS survive death 1 time. Definitely a yes from me!

10-Man Potential: She would operate more of a magic tank than a physical tank. However, she will be great to be Nyx's chaining partner with many ways to support herself and the team by setting up fire and dark debuffs. A yes from me.

    Pros:

    Scary counters which sustain her.
Can operate as a physical or a magic tank.
    Good sustain skills.
Exclusive Succubus' Satchel gives her 10% dodge to physical and magic attacks.
    Can double cast Serpente skills.
    Own camouflage passive.
Resists sleep, paralyze, petrify, confuse, and charm attacks.
    100% resistance to dark attacks.
Boosts her counter chance by 100%.
Magic damage against demons, humans, and undead by 50%.
Boost DEF and SPR by 100% when her HP is below 50%.
With her TM equipped, she can avoid fatal damage 100% for one time as long as her HP is above 1%, increases her DEF and SPR by 30%, and increases her LB gauge by 2.

    A charmer. [IMG]

    Cons:

More difficult to build her as a physical tank than a magic tank.
    Does not carry provoke abilities.
    No ST cover passive.
    Limited Unit.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Tetra Sylpheed, Anima, Alexander

Unit Synergy: Wilhelm, Merc Ramza, Demon Rain, Lucius, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, Zargabaath, Soleil, Loren, Elephim, GL Sakura, Ace, Nyx, Yun, DK Cecil, Trance Terra, LM Fina, Ayaka, Rem, Dark Veritas, Malphasie, Roy, Yuna, Ling, Yan, Liquid Metal Slime, Ignis, Viktor Marchenko

    #3: Beryl
    [IMG]

As a damage dealer, he is decent. As a magic tank, he is deathly! He chains with others and provokes when needed, counters good, and nice breaks. He is one of THE MOST versatile units in this game.

TMR: A pretty nice TM for any mage to use. The mage unit can gain 20% HP and also 30% MAG and SPR, boosting their survival without giving up any damage as well. Go on and grab!

STMR: The 142 MAG and SPR is VERY nice along with the 40% light and dark resistance. The dagger also carry a passive for Beryl only, where it increases all the equipment's MAG by 50%, which is great for him! BS Sakura, Rem, Awakened Rain, and even MS Nichol and SS Nichol can make use of this dagger!

Arena: An AoE in Heaven-Ye Not Guilty and a nice magic tank... who can also counter-heal and counter-attack. Add in the fact he can become immune to stop and gain physical evasion when he equips his TM and he becomes as scary as Lilith and Awakened Rain at 7*.

10-Man Battle Potential: He actually works and synergizes with others in many ways. He can break, in 3 different chaining families, and he can tank! Good to use!

    Pros:
Resists blind, paralyze, confuse and paralyze attacks.
    Can AoE magic tank attacks.
Can counter to deal damage and heal.
    Counters are 100%.
Deals extra damage to humans and can recover 10% MP per turn in The Name of God.
Good damage modifier in Heaven- Force of Light and Heaven-Penance Poke.
His Grudge skill grants him a Barrier and can counter any physical attacks with a 6x modifier for 2 turns in addition to a provoke.
High breaks from 50%-74% for stats and 60%-100% for light resistance.
LB powerful in stat breaks 74%.
Faster LB fill rate for 3 turns.
With TMR, Beryl gains 30% physical evasion, immunity to stop, 30% light and dark resistance, and more HP and MP.
    Very good MAG and SPR!
Seraphic Install-Hell Mode is a 90% damage mitigation, which is awesomeness!
Seraphic Install-Heaven Mode will allow him to double cast his Heaven attacks twice and also the ability for 3 turns to triple cast his Heaven attack skills.
Heaven Mode gives him access to double cast his attack skills twice.
Can give light and dark imbue to the team.
    Strong provoke!

    Cons:
    Counters only work once.
His Modes requires either removing his buffs or sacrificing himself.
His Grudge requires the use of his LB.
Difficult to be a mage and a tank at the same time. Requires a sacrifice.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Shiva, Anima, Carbuncle, Lakshmi, Alexander

Unit Synergy: Basch, Wilhelm, Dark Knight Cecil, Lenneth, Lunera, Loren, Orlandeau, Sephiroth, Ray Jack, Zargabaath, Trance Terra, Hyoh, Lotus Mage Fina, MS Nichol, SS Nichol, Elephim, Roy, Aileen, Ignis, Dark Veritas, Light Veritas, Citra, Grim Lord Sakura, Machina, Rem, Viktor Marchenko

    #4: Mercenary Ramza

    M. Ramza has a high chance of protecting someone at 75%. not only that, he can resist all status ailments as well. Depending on what he's equipped, he can push either his attack or defense, even more, to operate however you want him to operate for a tank.

TMR: 20% HP, MP, ATK, and MAG. Neat but not much of a top priority unless it is for hybrids.

STMR: Just straight up tankiness for both your physical and magic tanks. The 20% from the DEF and SPR as well as the 94 DEF and 82 SPR will be great. If you are able to get duplicates, grab this for your tank.

Arena: Well, he has Ultima so you can turn him into a mage and he does not have any aoe physical attacks. Only aoe physical attack is his LB. Really do not recommend him.

10-Man Potential: He can either be your AoE physical or magic tank and he can provoke at the same time if his Stone Throw is awakened. This means he can operate in any way you want towards any trial. A strong recommendation from me.

Pros: Debuffs for ATK and MAG last for 5 turns. 6 turns and up to 60% if his stat breaks are enhanced!
Blade of Justice good for chaining.
High chance to protect a unit through Noble Lineage.
Immune to ALL status ailments; immune to charm and gain element resistance as well if his True Hero passive is maxed.
    Auto-Refresh.
    High stats.
    Esunaga.
Boost stats based on equipment (Even more if his True Justice is maxed).
Can fill a role of a physical attacker and even a mage due to stat buffs and Ultima.
Stone Throw maxed gives full provoke and 40% mitigation!

Cons: Second Wind is only an ST buff.
Variety can bring difficulty in how to build him.
The mage-build is not so reliable.
His own ST cover will interfere with any aoe cover tanks.

Esper Synergy: Lakshmi, Ifrit, Odin, Titan, Golem

Unit Synergy: Ling, Minfilia, Marie, Elza, Delita, Tilith, Zargabaath, Rikku, Sakura, 9S, LM Fina, Ayaka, CK Ariana, MS Nichol, Ignis

    #5: Chow
    [IMG]

And taking the #5 spot is Chow. He is a powerful magic tank because his healing abilities work alongside with him tanking and mitigating damage for the team! Chinese New Year limited unit!

TMR: The HP is great. The passive is... too random. I wouldn't recommend grabbing this.

Arena: Actually no need for a healing tank like it is with Awakened Rain.

10-Man Potential: He works as he can work as your magic tank while also providing secondary healing as well, so feel free to use him.

    Pros:
    Curaga, Esunaga, and Full-Life.
    A very nice tank.
LB gives good damage mitigation and tons of MP-recovery.
Counters are an Esunaga itself and damage mitigation to Chow while removing both DEF and SPR breaks on him.
    An Auto-Refresh.
Increases gil and rare item drop.
    Camouflage.
    LB Fill rate 100%.
Can give charm and stop immunity to the team.
Resists paralyze, confuse, and petrify attacks.
Can heal and give himself a reraise at the same time.

    Cons:
Use up a lot of MP.
    Guardian's Sacrifice is suicidal.
LB can take a while to get to.

When will we see his 7*?!
    Limited unit.

Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Lakshmi, Siren, Phoenix

Unit Synergy: Basch, Noctis, LM Fina, Wilhelm, Ayaka, Rena, Eiko, Elephim, Ignis, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, Roy, Rinoa, Ace, Rosa, Rem, Zargabaath, GL Sakura, Yan, Yuna, Tilith, Demon Rain, Viktor Marchenko

    TOP Physical Tanks
    #1: Wilhelm
    [IMG]

The man with the mustache will be #1 as a physical tank for a SUPER long time.

TMR: If you have him, this shield is MEANT for him. The 65 DEF and SPR is very nice, but why put this shield on anyone else other than WILHELM!?

STMR: 110 DEF and SPR on top of the 20% HP? This is ALL for him! Well... unless you slap this on a magic tank.

Arena: Not needed here. No good attack skills to compensate the bulkiness.

10-Man Potential: Need someone to handle the AoE physical attacks and provokes? He is ALL yours! Mitigate that damage and back it up with LB fill rates and LB damage mitigation.

    Pros:

    LB powerful mitigation at 54%.
    Draw attack 50%.
    Strong AoE physical cover.
Impregnable when awakened gives 40% damage mitigation to him.
50% resistance to all ailments and 3 LB increase to gauge.
    Good counters.
    Heals when guarding.
Ignores fatal damage 1 time 100% when his HP is above 1%.
Fully awakening General's Battlecry gives a 100% LB fill rate and also lasts for 4 turns instead.

    Cons:

He's not perfect! He does not have... INNATE ST COVER PASSIVE! FAIL FOR LIFE!

    Esper Synergy: Alexander, Golem

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Lilith, Beryl, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, LM Fina, Ayaka, Mystea, Shylt, Elephim, GL Sakura, Awakened Rain, Yan, Loren, Lunera, Roy, Ace, Rinoa, HT Lid, Machina, Charming Kitty Ariana, Yuna, Rena, Ignis

    #2: Demon Rain
    [IMG]

TMR: Meh. 20% ATK and DEF with 20% to fire and earth resistance. You are most likely going to place this on him anyway for his TMR ability.

STMR: Whew. The 30% HP is nice but then a 50% boost to all equipment's ATK and DEF as well as 25% accuracy when single wielding ANY weapon is very nice. Grab this for your TDH needs!

Arena: Is pretty much a counter tank but even his counters will not work as much, especially in matches where units have evasion. he also does not have any AoE attack skills outside of magic. No from me.

10-Man Potential: This is where he can actually shine! He counters every time he is hit by a physical attack, which means more LB crysts.

    Pros:

    Very high counters.
Resists Blind, paralyze, and confuse at 7*.
Survives fatal damage 100% of the time for one time as long as HP is over 1%.
    Can use Entrust.
Have an AoE physical cover 75%.
Molten Armor gives AoE fire + earth resistance for 3 turns and 80% damage mitigation for one turn.
Equipping his TMR gives him more DEF and SPR, especially when single wielding and a powerful 10% Auto-Refresh and powerful Auto-Regen.
Demonic Surge powerful for offensive attacks, especially against human enemies.
Awakening his Counter passive gives him a 30% critical rate on his hits.
Awakening his Defend skill gives a provoke and also boost the turn of the mitigation to 3 turns.

    Cons:
Demonic Surge is only available every 5 turns.
    Can't use a shield.
Awakening his Ignite skill is not worth it.
    Limited unit during Halloween Event.

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Ifrit, Titan

Unit Synergy: Nyx, Noctis, Lilith, Beryl, LM Fina, Ayaka, Yuna, Eiko, Awakened Rain, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, Elephim, Roy, Rem, Zargabaath, Loren, 2B, Flame Veritas, Rena, HT Lid, Yan, Ignis

    #3: Gladiolus
    [IMG]

At 7*, he becomes a bit better. Just more HP and a couple of skills ot help him out with his damage as a tank.

    TMR:
The DEF is nice with 70 with a decent 35 SPR and 15% HP but with the passive to counter with a 100% attack boost, it has Glady's name on it.

    STMR:
Very powerful for ALL physical tanks. 50% HP, 30% DEF, and 100% more DEF when the unit's Hp falls under 80%. If you got the dupes, go and grab this!

    Arena:
Another counter unit, which physical counters does not really do so much. Not much of great usage here.

    10-Man Potential:
He counters and can sustain his HP and MP at 7*. I'd say he will work.

    Pros:

    Good counters.
Can mitigate damage and build up LB gauge through Blink.
Having Genji Blade equipped boost his ATK by 200%.
    Auto-Refresh and Auto-Regen.
Wearing TMR boosts his LB, gives him a First Aid counter, and more DEF, SPR, and HP.

Auto-Regen, when awakened, gives more HP (2000HP, 3x) per turn.
King's Shield, when awakened, gives resistance to paralyze, petrify, sleep, confuse, stop, and more DEF, SPR, and HP.
Gains more ATK when fully awakening his Large Sword Mastery passive.

    Cons:

    Bad MP Pool.
    No ailment protection.
    Lack of support skills.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Ifrit, Odin, Titan

    Unit Synergy:
Noctis, Ignis, Prompto, Lilith, Beryl, Awakened Rain, Yuna, LM Fina, Ayaka, Eiko, Rena, Soleil, Elephim, Roy, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, Yan, Ace, Loren, GL Sakura, Rem, Zargabaath

    #4: Mercenary Ramza

TMR: 20% HP, MP, ATK, and MAG. Neat but not much of a top priority unless it is for hybrids.

    STMR:

Arena: Well, he has Ultima so you can turn him into a mage and he does not have any aoe physical attacks. Only aoe physical attack is his LB. However, because he is able to fill different roles, he can work ok in the arena.

    10-Man Potential:

    #5: Lilith
    [IMG]

What can I say? She is as good as a physical tank as she is a magic tank.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Tetra Sylpheed, Anima

Unit Synergy: Wilhelm, Merc Ramza, Demon Rain, Lucius, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, Zargabaath, Soleil, Loren, Elephim, GL Sakura, Ace, Nyx, Yun, DK Cecil, Trance Terra, LM Fina, Ayaka, Rem, Dark Veritas, Malphasie, Roy, Yuna, Ling, Yan, Liquid Metal Slime, Ignis, Viktor Marchenko

    Honorable Tanks
    Viktor Marchenko
    [IMG]

TMR: Almost like Ayaka's TM, except instead of the LB fill rate, it gives 20% HP and 30% DEF, which is great for any tanks, healers and supports.

STMR: 80% DEF with heavy armor on in addition to resisting Sleep, paralyze, confuse, and petrify? Go and grab!

Arena: One of the very few tanks to work here as he is powerful with great AoE attacks.

10-Man Potential: As a provoke tank, he can punch back when he is hit and he can supply his own damage mitigation and HP Barrier every 3 tuns. Nice to use here.

    Pros:

Having his own TMR on him gives more ATK and DEF 30% and also increases all equipment DEF by 40% when dual wielding.
    Good breaks.
Can provoke and give himself a damage mitigation at the same time.
Can give himself resistance through EVERYTHING with Implanted Rebreather.
    He can dual wield.
    Finisher moves.
Skills scale with DEF to deal damage.

    Cons:
    Lack of chaining partners.
    No ST covers.
    No ailment protection.
2 of his CD skills only available every 5 turns.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Alexander, Ifrit, Odin

Unit Synergy: Lilith, Beryl, Awakened Rain, Ignis, MS Nichol, SS. Nichol, LM Fina, Ayaka, HT Lid, Zargabaath, Nyx, Chow, Charming Kitty Ariana, Rena, Yan, GL Sakura, Eiko, Yuna, Marie, Loren, Rem, Soleil

    White Knight Noel

Exclusive for the Christmas holidays. White Knight Noel is a combination of a mage and a powerful provoke tank. What puts him above Cecil is his passive "Attract" to immediately give him 30% more chance to be targeted, but also the "Bring it On" skill to increase the likelihood by another 80% and reducing ALL ST damage by 50%. This makes him being able to protect the whole party as opposed to Cecil only being able to protect one unit. What is nice about him is his passives to increase his MAG and DEF based on the weapon and armor he is using. This allows him to still have the chance to push out damage while at the same time stay tanky. He also has the ability to counter magic attacks.

TM: One of the best accessory for mage when it comes to MAG. 50 MAG, 50 DEF and a niche 25% ice resistance. Grab it.

Arena: His size is so big. For him, he can easily mitigate damage for the team and can aoe hit the team with Glacial Wave for magic damage. He has his ice and aero spells to use as well to help give damage as far as a magic tank go. Just watch out for those who use fire attacks as his fire resistance is -25%. Feel free to use.

10-Man Potential: As a provoke tank, he can work as he can also mitigate the damage at the same time, so go on ahead and use him.

Pros: Takes ALL ST attacks to himself and mitigate it through Bring it On.
Can lower ice and wind resistance.
Steel 75% damage mitigation; works well with Bring it On.
    Counters any magic attacks.
    Immune to petrify and silence.
Boost his MAG and DEF based on equipment.
    Can paralyze with Glacial Wave.

    Cons: Severely weak to Fire.
Can only counter magic attacks and not physical.
    His counter is random.

Esper Synergy: Golem, Lakshmi, Carbuncle, Shiva, Ramuh

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Ling, Tilith, Ramza, Minfilia, Marie, Rosa, Ashe, Fina, Lunera, Sakura, Rikku, Zargabaath, Ilias, Rem, 9S, Basch, Mystea, Shylt, Roy, Ayaka, LM Fina, Yuna, Yan, Chow

    Warrior of Light:

The tank everyone has been adoring and our very first character from the very first Final Fantasy as well as leading the Dissidia franchise. As a tank, he is able to give strong support to the team. Being able to cut down the team's stats by 45% with Armor Eraser and Arms Eraser is very powerful. He can also use his 100% provoke skill as well and can counter magic attacks by recovering 25% of his max HP and MP.

TM: No. Just no. Way too many powerful buffs than this TM.

Arena: Can tank, debuff, counter heal himself, and shuts down light-element attacks and light-element units. Top tier and recommended.

    10-Man Potential:

    Pros: Cuts stats by 45%.
    Light immunity.
Equips almost all weapons and wears all armor.
Protects the whole team with damage mitigation and aoe cover.
Boosts team's ATK and DEF by 45%.
Counter self-heals his HP and MP.
Hope greatly boosts DEF when HP is under 30%.

    Cons:
Few skills use a lot of MP.
Not many attacks to make use of Undead Killer passive.
Shining Wave is a magic attack.
Low stat passives compared to other tanks.
Can only counter by getting hit with magic.

    Esper Synergy: Lakshmi, Carbuncle

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Tilith, Refia, Rikku, Zargabaath, Ling, Ashe, Cloud of Darkness, Elza, Rain, Sakura, Vanille, Wilhelm, Lunera, Orran, Veritas of the Earth, Ilias, Luka, Fina, Beach Time Fina, Cecil, Ilias, Orran, Meliadoul, Marie, Minfilia, Sakura, Cloud of Darkness, Veritas of the Dark, Rain, Ace, 21O, Veritas of the Dark, 9S

    Basch:

Wanting to reclaim his right as a protector of his kingdom, he certainly does so. Basch is able to cover both physical and magic aoe attacks! If he gets hit by one of those attacks, he can either heal back his HP and/or his MP as well! This allows him to be self-sufficient! He also can handle some stat breaks as well!

TM: 60 DEF, 70 SPR, 50% Lightning Resistance and a 10% chance to evade? Great for ANY tank! Please grab!

Arena: Tanks are not really used but he would survive longer than WoL that much I know. Optional but not really needed.

Pros: Covers physical and magic attacks.
Can counter with heals on HP and Mp on himself.
Boost DEF and SPR with a light or heavy shield.
Strong stat debuffs aoe 45% to ST 50%.
Nice 70% DEF + SPR aoe buff to the team.
    Auto-Refresh.
Enhancements and 7* in the future!

    Cons: No ailment protection.
Damage LB only for evade; not so good for damage.
Cannot cover physical and magic damage simultaneously.
    Low attack damage.

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Lakshmi

Unit Synergy: Liquid Metal Slime, Noctis, Ling, MS Nichol, HT Lid, Ayaka, Rikku, LM Fina, Ramza, Lunera, Roy, Wilhelm, Ilias, Yuna, Eiko, Zargabaath, GL Sakura, Yan, BS Sakura, Rem, Minfilia, Marie, 9S, Ashe, Divine Soleil, Soleil, CK Ariana

    Barusa
    [IMG]

Barney's green cousin! No wait... he's a Rynoc from Spyro... who knows! What matters is that when Barusa's abilities are maxed, he becomes a solid tank, capable of stacking physical and magic damage mitigation on himself or an ally who already have the regular damage mitigation on them! What is nice about Barusa is that he can be used as a physical cover tank or he can be your provoke tank! A limited unit from the King's Knight Raid Event.

TM: 30% DEF, 30% Earth Resist, and an ability to cast a 30% physical damage mitigation on the team. This is nice. It is not 45% like 9S's TM but it lasts for 3 turns instead of two. Grab whenever you need it.

Arena: Meh. Not really. Not a damage dealer for a happy dinosaur.

Pros: Can be either a physical cover tank or provoke tank.
Physical and magic mitigation skills can stack.
    Own Draw Attack passive.
Boosts HP and DEF from using shields.
    Resistant to paralyze and confusion.

Cons: Can't deal a lot of damage.
Why in the world is he carrying a Dragon Killer?
Force Fields are not AOE and is only ST.
    Barney's cousin is limited...

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Fenrir

Unit Synergy: Noctis, White Knight Noel, Basch, Warrior of Light, Charlotte, Earth Veritas, Mystea, Shylt, LM Fina, Ayaka, Tilith, CK Ariana, Divine Soleil, Soleil, Ramza, Roy, Lunera, Rikku, 9S, GL Sakura, BS Sakura, MS Nichol, I. Nichol, Zargabaath, Ashe, Rasler, Liquid Metal Slime, Yuna, Yan, Ling, Chow

    Veritas of the Earth
    [IMG]

As one of the Sworn Six of Paladia, he shows why he is the Vanguard of tanking. He has a Defensive Barrier to give the team damage mitigation, but his Incinerating Press is a 2.7x damage modifier with a 100% two-turn provoke. He can even boost his DEF and SPR by 100% if his HP is below 30%. Did I forget he also absorb earth attacks? His Demon Wall is an upgrade from Y'shtola since it can do damage while giving (When max) 54% damage mitigation for 1 turn to the whole team.

TM: It may not stack, but it is still good for any units to take advantage of if they are able to wear a heavy armor and use a heavy shield. It gives 40% ATK and DEF when using them. Grab it if you ever get Veritas. :)

Arena: He is able to hit the whole enemy team and he can also decrease the damage his team takes in the arena and make himself stronger than stone when his HP drops. Very good to use.

    Pros: High counter rate.
Great damage mitigation for the team.
    Absorbs Earth.
    Resists paralyze.
Guardian has a 60% chance to protect the team from physical attacks.
    100% provoke-attack skill.
Boost DEF and SPR by 100% when HP is below 30%.
Can protect the team from status breaks.
Can give team 100% earth resistance.
Awakening Earthlord passive will give him a powerful Auto-Regen on top of the DEF and HP increase.

Cons: ... Why in the world is the Earth not immune to petrify? -_-
    No MP passives.
    Steel Body a selfish move.

    Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Lakshmi

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Zargabaath, Rikku, Dark Fina, Seabreeze Dark Fina, Zyrus, Warrior of Light, Wilhelm, Luka, Refia, Tilith, Lunera, Ashe, Cecil, Orran, Veritas of the Dark, Veritas of the Flame, Meliadoul, Rain, Fina, Beach Time Fina, Santa Roselia, Ilias, Y'shtola, Rosa, 9S, 21O

    Shylt
    [IMG]

Almost the same as Mystea in every way. The difference is he protects the party from stat breaks and his LB boosts light and dark resistance in addition to the mitigation and a DC so he can cast any spells, meaning he can become a healer just as much as Mystea. He also can counter-attack with his own SPR attack.

TMR: It's just more focus on SPR and in total 50% when using a staff. Not much of a high priority.

Arena: Not really needed for fights.

10-Man Potential: He's almost like Mystea as your go-to for a magic tank and to resist stat breaks and stop.

Pros: LB almost like Mystea except for a boost to light and dark resistance to the team in addition to 42% damage mitigation.
    Can aoe cover against magic.
Protects team against stat breaks and stop.
Counters with his own SPR attack.
    Mini auto-regen.
    Dualcast.

    Cons: Does not equip shields.
    No HP passives.
    Protectga and Shellga outdated.
Reduction mitigation skill weak and irrelevant.
So... when will we see his enhancements as Mystea did?

Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Lakshmi, Golem, Siren, Fenrir

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Ayaka, Tilith, Ashe, Ling, CK Ariana, LM Fina, Marie, Minfilia, MS Nichol, Soleil, Zarabaath, Rem, Sakura, Fina, Lunera, Olif, Yan, GL Sakura, BS Sakura, Liquid Metal Slime, Wilhelm, Rikku, Barusa
    Charlotte
    [IMG]

Charlotte for a 6* is a pretty strong tank and can really hold her own. Give her the exclusive Patriot Shield so she will have access to her Cleansing Light ability. What is nice about her is her good Royal Armlet ability to cover units as well as the ability to use Shellga, which is useful for healers. She also comes with an Auto-Regen ability, allowing her to stay alive longer in battle. Def%, SPR%, and HP% materia is a must for Charlotte.

    TM: Not really needed...

Arena: We have to admit this. We will not see as much Charlotte in the arena since she is a five star, but she will have a six star awakening in the future.

Pros: Exclusive shield gives her Cleansing Light, to remove ailments on the team.
    Auto-Regen.
Good damage mitigation and cover with Royal Armlet.

    Cons: Shellga out-dated.
No skills to take advantage of Undead and Demon Killer passives.

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Carbuncle, Lakshmi

Unit Synergy: Refia, Tilith, Ramza, Noctis, Y'shtola, Luka, Minfilia, Marie, Zargabaath, Rosa, Ashe, Rikku, Lunera, Ling, LM Fina, GL Sakura, Ayaka, MS Nichol, Barusa, White Knight Noel, Liquid Metal Slime, Yuna, Eiko, Yan, Roy

    Mystea
    [IMG]

The very first magic tank! Mystea has her own Dualcast in order to operate as your secondary healer if needed. however, she is prized for her magic tanking and also for being able to protect the team not only from ailments but also from stop!

TM: Meh. It's ok, but not really needed unless you want to focus on element resistance.

Arena: Not really needed for fights.

10-Man Potential: Like Shylt, she is used as a magic tank to mitigate magic attacks while also providing the resistance to ailments and stop. Good to use.

    Pros:
    Can cover magic attacks.
    Dual cast.
Can protect the team from Stop and all ailments.
    Camouflage.
    A mini Auto-Regen passive.
Strong LB damage mitigation with a strong AOE SPR buff.

    Cons: No HP passives.
    Does not equip shields.
    Protectga and Shellga outdated.

Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Lakshmi, Golem, Siren, Fenrir

Unit Synergy: Noctis, Ayaka, Tilith, Ashe, Ling, CK Ariana, LM Fina, Marie, Minfilia, MS Nichol, Soleil, Zarabaath, Rem, Sakura, Fina, Lunera, Olif, Yan, GL Sakura, BS Sakura, Divine Soleil, Liquid Metal Slime, Wilhelm, Rikku, Barusa

    Liquid Metal Slime
    [IMG]

He is the best 5* tank for anyone and for players who missed him during the two Dragon Quest events, oh well. He resists 80% of physical and magic damage, which is a lot! Yes. He can out-beat a 6* tank such as Cagnazzo. In a 7* meta, once he has a barrier on him, he will be insane and demi-god like. Buuut... if you don't want him, you can fuse him into a unit for 3k million exp.

TMR: Decent 49 DEF but also gives immunity to Poison, Disease, Sleep, Paralyze, Confuse, and Petrify. Not a high priority but a tank would still love it regardless.

Arena: Watch him spam a Frozen Hurricane or a Toxic Rain? ::joy:: Funny to watch but no.

10-Man Potential: You can honestly make him work but you need to put Golem on him for the provoke and boost his HP so that he can actually be more than serviceable. Barriers will also help him out tremendously as well!

    Pros:

80% innate Physical and Magic Resistance.
Awakening his Metal Body passive gives him 30% in stats, 30% physical evasion and 5 increase to LB gauge per turn.
    LB SO EASY TO FILL!
LB makes him resistance to everything AND give him a provoke!
Does not take a lot to gear.

    Cons:
Cannot equip hats, weapons, materias, or armor.
    Skills LAAAAAAME!

    Esper Synergy: Golem, Alexander, Lakshmi,

Unit Synergy: Lilith, Beryl, Awakened Rain, LM Fina, Ayaka, Eiko, Marie, Loren, GL Sakura, Rinoa, Yuna, Yan, Illusionist Nichol, Zargabaath, MS. Nichol, SS. Nichol, Elephim, Roy
    Capable Tanks
This section covers on who is able to become tanks, especially through the power of 2017 Limited Halloween unit, Illusionist Nichol. I will talk about Illusionist Nichol here and the units who work alongside him to become capable tanks in their own rights. Those with any innate evasion will definitely be mentioned here.

    Illusionist Nichol
    [IMG]

He has the ability to not only allow units to dodge physical attacks, but he can also make a unit, even himself, mitigate damage for the whole team as well. That and the fact he can double cast his illusion spells mean he can turn units with innate evasion into evade tanks. As an added bonus, his LB gives an HP and MP regen and allows the team to dodge physical attacks as well for 3 turns.

TM: His hat TM is neat. Mainly for the supports, healers and mages. Gives the MP, MAG and also an auto-refresh and LB fill as well.

Arena: To be honest, he can work in the arena. He does have his support aspects, but he can also deal damage. He also can restore his MP whenever he is hit by magic spells. Feel free to use him.

Pros: Can cast Illusion spells twice.
Phantasmal Wards allows him to counter-attack with MAG for stats for 3 turns.
Can turn units into tanks and evade tanks through Doppelganger and Redirect.
Can absorb magic spells for MP.
    Strong regen-and-evade in LB.
    Can chain with other units.

    Cons: Low MAG base stat.
No dual cast to take advantage of spells.

    Esper Synergy: Carbuncle, Lakshmi, Siren

Unit Synergy: Warrior of Light, Cecil, Wilhelm, Charlotte, Tidus, Noctis, Ling, Zargabaath, Rikku, Queen, Demon Rain, Ayaka, Tilith, 9S, Earth Veritas, Soleil, Ace, 2B, A2, Dark Veritas, Prishe, Pirate Jake, Dracu Lasswell, Grim Lord Sakura, White Witch Fina, Black Cat Lid, Nyx, Fohlen

Ability to Become a Tank: Tidus, Nyx, Rico Rodriguez, Lila, LM Fina, Explorer Aileen, 2B, A2, Prompto, Kryla, Setzer, Ling, Fohlen, Rikku, Balthier, Noctis, Zargabaath, 9S, Soleil, Liquid Metal Slime, Lucius, Lightning, Trance Terra, Malphasie, Prishe, Fryevia, Ellesperis, Lucian

    Great guide.
Just wondering for WKN, coul you also use espers: Ramuh or Shiva as it would boost his mag dmg?

Yes, especially Ramuh. Ramuh is stronger than Shiva in MAG so Ramuh would be preferred. WKN already have a weakness to fire so Shiva would only make it worse.

Wow this is nice, it actually gave me an idea to turn CoD to a support/tank, it's just sad that there are only a handful of good defensive items for her. I'd love to give her a shield, maybe that Charlotte TM wouldn't be so bad for secondary tanks now huh.

    Yep
This is exactly what i thought . However, since im using OK chainers , i think WoL work best for me since OK doesn't have any break ( unlike landu )
I wonder what will happen after the enchantment ?

Lol... VoE at the top and willhelm at 3rd?
    Charlotte under wol?

If you include tmrs tanks you also need to include evade tanks. Also i.nichol tactics.

Seems you have not done malboro or aigion using tanks.

Also you should include BiS gear atm Wich is pretty traversal for all tanks.

@Mcleod This guide haven't been updated in a while bro and this is before I. Nichol came out (And I also forgot to move some units like Charlotte around who gained their ability awakenings during that time). I did teh teh Malboro and Aigion using tanks and it was difficult with me (Malboro I use both WoL and EV together for them). As for BiS, I do not use more than 1 TM when I do the build for fairness to other players and the fact not everyone will have more than one of the units to be able to grab more than one particular TM.

I also preferred EV over Wilhelm because I favored his damage mitigation more than Wilhelm and his AOE cover. I see EV with better damage mitigation and Wilhelm do not have any aoe covers or even a single aoe cover. Yes. Wilhelm is a great provoke tank, but his damage mitigation is mainly for him (And his aoe damage mitigation is behind an LB) and for him to even aoe cover, he needs I. Nichol, which I will not move Wilhelm up, which I will talk about in this post. Wilhelm being #2 and WoL #3, then that can be debated. EV is able to do something for the whole team and not just for himself through damage mitigation, provokes and aoe cover backed up with earth absorbtion. WoL is more famous for his breaks and he can also aoe cover. Wilhelm is more famous for his provokes.

As for evade tanks, I will place them underneath the "Capable tanks" section and I. Nichol will also be placed there. It wouldn't make sense for me to even move those with evasion to now be considered as top tanks or honorable mentions when I. Nichol is limited. Also, I will not move tanks up like Wilhelm because of I. Nichol. I. Nichol is what makes tanks suchh as Wilhelm become better or units to become capable tanks, but I am rating them and comparing them by their abilities, strengths and weaknesses by themselves.

Since we will have a new tank in this banner, this will be my next guide to focus on updating.

I have Wilhelm and EV and I never use EV in comparison. Wilhelm is just a beast when it comes to ST attacks. AoE is a different story. I tend to bring WoL to those fights most of the time. To date, I have not brought EV to a meaningful fight.

    I see... although i differ.

EV is not able to withstand Malboro tentacle rampage even with BiS gear, He is not able to tank Aigion Punch even with BiS gear. The BIG problem with EV is that until he activate his self defense ability he's squishy AF, even bis he gets 13k hp and gets down in a single shot on aigion, his passives are not great, he gets barely 650sh def with the same setup that Wilhelm would get 800def, I agree that skillwise seems more comphrensive but if he dies there is nothing you can do about it, you need provoke as fight starts? chances are that he dies right off the bat, AoE mitigation is crap compared to WoL and Charlotte, EV is by nowhere near a decent trial tank without spending at least 1 turn preparing to tank.

@Mcleod The aoe mitigation I am talking about is through EV's LB and Defensive Barrier, not aoe cover mitigation. Yes. WoL and Charlotte beats EV in term of AOE COVER damage mitigation. When it comes down to making sure the other units take less damage, this EV is able to do. I am looking at a different perspective of what the tank unit is able to do for the team. If someone like Sheratan is AOE magic hitting the team, then EV's LB or Defensive Barrier is up to protect the team. The aoe covers on the tanks right now only reacts to physical attacks and they cannot react to aoe magic attacks. This is why I have EV up higher because he is able to currently do this (Wilhelm can too, but only through his LB). I see EV a better tank than WoL in my eyes, especially for survivability and for difficult fights such as Sheratan and even Aigaion (Malboro I take both EV and between Charlotte or WoL because I just cannot do the fight with one tank. Too difficult for me right now). EV's passive to even boost his SPR when his HP is down makes me see him better and Charlotte can actually survive a fatal attack when his HP is abouve 40%. WoL is nice for stat breaking, but outside of it and aoe covering, I do not like him due to the fact that his Warrior's Pride only reacts to magic attacks and I'm not keen on it, especially when it can even be an aoe attack. I see EV have the best use in giving survivability and to give endurance to the team.

I can even say that WoL's passive is not better than EV's. EV can actually resist and absorb certain element attacks and can even give the team stat break resistance. What else can I get from WoL besides stat breaking and aoe cover? A raise? My Tilith and Rikku can cover that and aoe auto-rev is from my GL Sakura and Rikku's LB and EV's provoke actually last an extra turn.

Just different plays and different perspectives. IN my personal opinion, as time goes on, I see WoL is not as great as players make him out to be, but is only famous because of a secondary role he takes on, but EV actually can give something beneficial to the team which the other three tanks currently cannot do right now. Once EV's and WoL's ability awakenings are released, then it can change.
