    The Book of Tricks

Welcome to the Book of Tricks. If you have been playing FFBE for a long time or you are new, these tricks will (possibly) improve your game, or maybe just be a fantastic source of entertainment. Many/most veterans already know these tricks, so if you have any to add please let me know!

I have tested all of these tricks, although some of them may have been changed/fixed/patched*. Most of these tricks are just manipulations of game mechanics. I have not included macros/switches/third party programs. Use those at your own risk.

*If these tricks have been changed, please let me know in the comments and I will remove them.

If you are a veteran, not only may you know these tricks but you may also feel these are not tricks but are just aspects of playing the game. This guide is specifically for people who don't know these techniques, who are new at the game, or for someone who has discovered something they would like to contribute to the guide. I will say that each and every time I learned one of these techniques, it monumentally changed how I played the game for weeks, so I felt having them in one place would also help others.

There are also some excellent tips for beginners in the Stickied Thread.

    Thanks to the following people for additional suggestions and tricks: @Carnefix @leemanho @Gibbons @Klaus @Shinma @Climhz @Balthier @Carnefix @JimmyL @Xyder

Zarg's Anger Management: When going in for the kill, don't forget to throw an extra helping of anger onto your finisher with Zargabaath's Berserk Crest. Throw the Berserk Crest onto the unit to boost attack to ungodly amounts (even above the normal 300% cap), but do it right before the attack connects with the enemy. Use a dualcast curaga/dispel to remove the anger (and buff) in the same turn if you don't want your unit acting as a lone wolf on the next turn. Another fun use of Berserk Crest is you can berserk the enemy, thus "forgetting" to do any abilities, although the enemy will hit like a truck.

Fixing “down” the Damage: Some units have abilities called “fixed damage”. While most of these abilities are relatively low on the damage scale (500-1500), when boosted with killers and chains fixed damage can provide almost exact amounts of damage. With proper testing (on the target dummy in the Wind Tower of the Farplane) you can deal specific amounts of damage each time. This is very helpful on bosses or enemies with hit point phases (where once you pass the phase the enemy unleashes a certain ability only used at that phase, such Elnath), as you can use Libra/Analyze to gauge the exact hit points and then calculate exactly how many hit points you will deal. @Balthier also mentions the usefulness/necessity of Fixed Damage dealers in fights such as the third form of Carbuncle (who has, lol, 9999 DEF and 3000 SPR), so don't forget about their abilities!

Kill Missions: The kill missions are annoying, because it's hard to calculate exactly when the killing blow will occur. However, the way the game calculates the kill is not by the killing blow itself but with the animation of the kill. For espers: the esper Diabolos has the longest animation for his attack. To get the kill successfully, use Diabolos and then immediately begin your chaining attack for the kill. Thanks to @Klaus for this trick, mentioned in this thread. For magic: Spells like Ultima, Alterna, and Holy work well, given their very long cast times. Start casting the spell and then kill the boss within the timeframe. For limit bursts: Units like Hyoh or Blossom Sage Sakura (20-30+ hits) are great, especially if the hits are spaced far apart and the animation is quite long. Remember all you need is for the final blow of the animation to hit the boss after the boss has already died.
Xon's Resurrection: This is a fairly simple trick. All you need is Xon and a unit who can dualcast Reflect (from 3* Carbuncle) and Reraise. Aim your dualcast at Xon, and then have Xon steal the reraise back from the enemy. Now your whole party will have reraise.

Elixir Party: Using Ilias, it is possible to restore HP/MP to 100% to everyone with a simple elixir. Using Salve (which usually only works with potions), you can trick the game into substituting an elixir (or any other healing item) for your whole party. Select the elixir from the items menu first, then go back and use Salve, back out again (don't choose potion) and finally use the elixir normally.

Dispelga Sanity: With a unit who has access to a cure spell and Dispelga (and dualcast), you can remove all debuffs/imperils/ailments from your party with a simple re-targeting trick. Dualcast your cure spell on someone in your party (or everyone), and then immediately retarget the dispelga onto the same person. Instead of dispelling the enemy you will dispel the debuff/imperil from your whole party. Warning: if you don't retarget quick enough this will fail. You also need a spell that has a lag long enough to actually retarget (it doesn't have to be a cure spell, but most people use Curaga as it has a longer than normal cast time). Be sure to reapply any buffs you need before the turn is over or on your next turn. Thanks to @leemanho for this trick! You can also long-press target the enemy and then re-target onto your team if you are having trouble with the relatively small sizes of your units.

Soft Resetting: Sometimes you make a mistake in your ability selection and need to try again. Make sure at least one unit hasn't acted, and close/shut down the app. When you come back to the app, you will be given the option to try the battle again from the beginning of your turn. This is especially important for trial battles, when turns are so tightly micromanaged that one wrong move can mean death for your whole party. If you wait too long (after all your units have acted or animations have completed) any soft reset will reset on the enemy's turn, not your turn.

Resetting Harder: Similarly, you can perform a Hard Reset if you force close the app after agreeing to return to the battle after a soft reset. After you attempt to rejoin the battle there will be two flashes: closing the app at this point will force a hard reset, and bring you back to turn #1 of the battle. The enemy will still perform their abilities they performed initially (the RNG doesn't change, unless you change your own moves), but this may give you a chance to rethink your strategy (or not mess up your missions). Thanks to @Shinma for this amazing tip!
TMR Farming: Most people know this, but in case you don't – you will increase the speed of obtaining one TMR if you use multiple copies of the same unit together in your battles, because they fuse together and the fusing is additive. Normally it takes thousands and thousands of battles for a single unit to unlock the TMR, but using this method you can obtain a single TMR in a matter of days (if you are patient enough with grinding).

I'm not a thief, I'm a treasure hunter!”: Certain units will have passives which increase the chance for dropped items or increase the gil you receive after the battle is finished. These passives stack, although to a diminishing amount (gil passives do not stack). Don't neglect common items, as they will often be used as the 20% bonus for normal C and B class Expeditions. Rare item drops though, such as enhancement crystals and rare gems which can be used for crafting killers will also drop from enemies you encounter in the world.

Maxxing out 7* style: It is possible to get 4 TMR, 1 STMR, and a 50% moogle from four of the same 5* units as long as they can be awakened to 7*. The process is simple, but first you will need two units both leveled to 100. Then, all you need to do is turn the two remaining 5* units (level 1) into awakening crystals and use them to awaken your level 100 units to 7*. This process will net you two prisms, which can be fed moogles for each prisms' respective TMR. The final step is to make sure your second 7* unit has maxxed out the TMR before fusing to your first 7* unit. Now with 3 TMR (or 1 TMR and 2 TMR prisms), all you need to do is fuse the 7* unit with 100% TMR into your first 7* unit to receive both the STMR and a 50% moogle.

Additional note: if you have a 5th copy of that 5* unit, you can fuse the 5th into your 100% TMR 7* unit for another 50% moogle (you won't get anything else), and then fuse the 100% TMR 7* unit into the first. Now if you fuse your two 50% moogles together that will net you a free TMR from either your remaining 7* unit, or either of your prisms. I haven't tried this yet, so if you try and and it doesn't work please let me know.

Macro Farming: If you are curious more about using macros for TMR farming, do a search online for it. There are programs available and instructions on how to set them up. Macro farming basically allows you to automatically use the 1 energy Earth Shrine stage to automatically boost your TMR for 2-5 selected units. I don't recommend macro farming as while it's not necessarily against the TOS, using certain third-party programs is against the TOS and could result in your account getting banned. What programs are allowed and are not allowed are not public knowledge, only inferred. However, I wanted to mention this because @Climhz suggests if you are macro farming, make sure your units in the first and third spot use short animations, otherwise your macro farming may take twice, three, four, even five times as long as normal (this is because the majority of macros use the first and third units as the attacking units in the Earth Shrine stage).
Raid Pilfering: Equip "Pilfer" on your raid units and go to town on the raid boss. Usually raid bosses will have massive amounts of gil you can take, and as long as you can kill the boss before he gets too angry, it's yours to keep! Pilfer, though, has a chance of not collecting the full amount, so using units like Xon will ensure you get the full amount each time. An alternative (if you can spare the units) is to equip pilfer on two units, which will ensure you receive the full amount each time. Having a gil enhancement passive will further increase the amount of gil you "find" from the boss.

Save the Cactuars: Poor guys can't get a break! If you want to help Save the Cactuars, be wiser about your team compositions. In raids, story events, bonus stages, limited exploration maps, and Mog King stages, enemies will often drops bucketloads of experience points. Usually players fly through these stages with their max level units, but often in overkill. Throw an underleveled unit in your group and let the unit soak up the extra experience points.
Cracking the Vaults: As the game gets older, gear from season 1 becomes more and more outdated. One of the coolest parts of season 1 was the Grandshelt Vault. As you wandered through Lapis, you collected keys, which you then exchanged for special items you could only get at the vault. As you progressed to more cities, you would unlock more vaults, which in turn would unlock more vaults. Don't skip out on the vaults. Some of the valuable items you get which continue to have use are: the recipe to Hyper, the equip hat/large shield/fist materia, the undead killer/beast killer/demon killer materia, the Swordbreaker, and the Dragon Shield/Dragon Mail. These are still top tier gear which continue to have use in many raids and trials.

Elemental Mission Smörgåsbord Madness: There are two very simple tactics to finishing all the elemental damage missions easily and without any fuss. The first tactic is to use a single unit who has access to every element in a non-magical form in the unit's toolkit (such as Xon), done by equipping various types of "Element"-blade abilities (such as Stone Blade, Water Blade, Holy Blade, and so on), and using esper abilities to fill in the remaining elements (Fenrir is great for this). However, another method which isn't mentioned often is using items such as Zeus's Wrath, Fish Scales, Bomb Fragments, and so on. The benefit of using items is that they do such minimal damage, 99% of the enemies you fight won't die, so you can still use other abilities to fulfill other missions in the same fight (such as those elemental chaining missions). Just be careful the mission parameters don't have a "No items" mission.

Exploring Daily: One of the most annoying daily missions is the exploration mission. A secret is that esper battles are also considered explorations. To finish this without any fuss just kill the 5 energy version of Siren in her tower to complete this mission without spending 4 or 5 minutes trekking through the Earth Shrine. Thanks to @Xyder for this great tip!

Advancing Yourself Without: Some of the new Advance Quests can be completed extremely quickly. For example, according to @JimmyL the Awaken unit to 7* Advance Quest can be completed without awakening a unit to 7*, as long as you already have awakened at least 1 unit to 7*. All you need to do is awaken any unit, and the system will award you the achievement. In addition, awakening an ability to +2 doesn't require a high-level unit, even a level 1 unit like Roselia will work. All you need to do is awaken her Pray to Pray+2 for the low price of 15,000 gil and eight low level crysts.
Libralize Yourself: For those of you who are Lorehounds, there is a double benefit to using Libra. Not only does it help you in checking the hit points and weaknesses (and enemy type) of your opponent, but it unlocks a bestiary entry in an encyclopedia under the Options section of the app (under "Monsters"). This entry has extra information, often pertaining to the particular story of the enemy. For example, did you know that Cid, before he was defeated by Rain and company in season 1, used to refer to humans and dwarves as "earthbound scum"?

Esperbonanza: Similarly, if you review the Esper Guide, you will discover (to my utmost shame, when I discovered it) that each star level of each esper has a different animation. Most of us never see these animations because the second we get the esper we immediately level it to max and unlock the next level. For new players, this is even more pertinent, as you will miss the beautiful CG of both the first and second star versions. And each animation isn't only slightly different - it's entirely different.
Daily Chores: Dailies in most mobile gacha games are tedious and time-wasting. In FFBE, however, you can complete most of your daily quests in a matter of minutes with a few shortcuts and helpful strategies. For example, when "sharing" you needn't actually share, only click the button and press cancel. When crafting, you only need to craft a potion, something any player of any level can do in less than 10 seconds. The arena quests don't need a win, so complete those with a team than can OTK (one-turn kill) the enemy player, a low-level 1-2* team that will die immediately from the enemy, or even a one unit team that suicides on the first turn by attacking himself. When summoning a unit, using an Arena ticket is sufficient. Don't forget to send friend points to your friends every day either! Thanks to @Gibbons for the sharing trick!

Friend Abuse: While most players know you can change the gift your friends send to you every day, most players don't consider the reason. The typical friend gift is the FP, which can be used to summon 1-2* units, typically for the TMR gift. However, you can change the friend gift to either gil or your chosen type of cryst. Crysts are necessary for item creation (for example, a potion requires one water cryst). If you accumulate enough water crysts (1000, for example) you can easily complete all three of the Peerless Chemist achievements, and with more crysts (3000 for the spell water) you can also complete the Divine Technician achievements. By unlocking your full friend pool, you can receive up to 130 free water crysts per day, meaning you only need less than two months to complete most of the item achievements.

Resetting the Wheel: Your Rewards Wheel (that television icon in the top left corner of the main screen) uses a unique ID to determine what kinds of ads you can receive (based on your IP address). If you are not receiving any ads on a certain day, go into your settings and reset your advertising ID, and then do a soft reset of the app. You should have five shiny new chances to receive that nice 100 lapis reward! @Carnefix suggests this thread, which attempts to solve problems for people with devices that don't necessarily use the Google ID system.

Interesting tips. One thing about dispeling own party: the first spell doesn't need to be a cure spell, it can be anything. And the length of the animation of the first spell doesn't matter, what matters is the time between your unit casting the first spell and the second spell, you need to successfully target your own unit before the second spell is cast. To easily target your unit, you can long tap the enemy instead (the enemy is easier to long tap because it is larger), and then after the menu is brought up, you can tap your unit to change and then you can target your unit easily.

    i'm curious
zarg berserk crest is atk+150%, is it stack if you already have buff atk (lets say from zarg LB which buff 150% stat or queen innate berserk +300% ATK) so it will achieve 300% with zarg buff and 450% for queen?

Yes, from my understanding this is true. Again, though, the tricky part of this technique is that you need to dedicate one unit to dispelling the berserk or else you lose control of that unit the next turn. It's circumstantial in how you will use it and when. Obviously you don't want to dedicate a whole unit just for this, unless you really need the damage.

You should also note that all the buffs will be gone after the dispel including defensive buffs. You might need them to survive on need to reapply them as soon as possible.

Never used any kind of fixed damage for thresholds like your described it and also didn't see that tips in any guides or clears.
Can you give a few examples or links?

Still not that useful. Not worth getting the reflect skill on Carbuncle since your will almost never use it anyways.

You should also add that all your buffs will be gone after that. That means that you have to rebuff and use the needed cover skills from your tank/s again.

It also works as long as the enemies turn didn't start yet. That means that you can still do the soft reset as long as your units attack animations are ongoing even trough all of your units have uses their skills on that turn.
It also works when you accidentally killed the boss but he is still at his dying animation.
But be careful since that is somehow risky since the soft reset timing is important and missing it will still start the enemy's turn.

Whenever we get the daily quest to "share a social message", you don't actually have to share/post anything. Wherever there is a "Share" button (e.g., in the Friends section, or after you summon a unit, etc), just click "Share" and then click "Cancel". The game will register that as completing your daily mission. I didn't know about this until recently. Before I knew this I had been sending myself a text each time that daily quest came up.

Thanks for the suggestions and clarifications!

Enemies like Elnath (who have their nasty genocide phases) are great for building up thundaja chains using fixed damage modifiers. For example, I was able to 5-man Elnath using Kryla's fixed damage abilities.

I will be the first to admit I haven't found too many strategies that revolve around pure fixed damage strategies (most strategies focus on burst damage/cheese/or endurance it seems), but back in the day I equipped Punisher (does fixed damage based on current MP) on Tilith and used her as a major damage dealer to cap chains for massive damage when I didn't need her as a healer.

More of an exploit than a trick, but for the sake of equal playing field for all, I'll add hard reset.

    How to:

While a battle is still active (your or enemy turn)
    1. force close the app
    2. Relaunch
    3. proceed as if rejoining mission.
    4. After selecting yes to resume running mission, you will see two 'flashes' of connecting.
    5. Force close the app at this point and then relaunch as normal.
You'll be returned to the first stage/first turn of the mission.

    N.B.
    • Missions don't recalculate target and reaction after hard reset. E.G. If you Defend all on Turn one and boss nukes units 1,3 and 5 on their turn, they will nuke 1, 3, 5 still after hard reset if you defend all.
    • Similarly, chance based skills will not change their roll/success rate, Cryst/orb drops on same skill selection will go to the same units.
      • Altering a unit's behavior will result in different chance occurrences.
    • Hard resets won't fix a flaw in team comp. It's often better to give up and tweak your composition rather than hard resetting for an hour trying to make it work.

Just a tip for people farming tmr with multiple units team: check attack animation by tap the unit when view, so you can place shortest ones to position 1 and 3

Carbuncle was an example of battle using fixed damage. Also that Aranea challenge.

This is interesting, but what is the reason to do this? Speaking as someone who hasn't farmed TMR in a long time, does it significantly boost the speed of your farming?

Yes, the speed animation makes you save some time in the long run.
Example: farming with CG Lasswell is faster than farming with Lightning, so in the same time you’ll run ES more times if you’re using Lasswell’s attacks.

Yes, it boost the time for 1 fight a lot. Some units just hit 1 time but some units hit 3 times and jump around more than others

    Ok, I've added the tip!

Just a note: I can't honestly recommend doing macros in this post because of the amount of people I've known who have received banned accounts who have stated the only reason they might have gotten banned is because of macros. Now, generally that was because they were using third-party software (and not Nox - emulation software that has macros built-in) but it's still not a very safe thing to do, because if Gumi ever did decide that using Nox was against TOS, they would know if you had used it because of the sheer amount of TMRs you would have gained from Earth Shrine from accessing the game while you were supposed to be asleep. :P

I did macro Sara's TMR around a year ago, but after I finished it I decided I wasn't going to do it anymore, because I couldn't risk my account getting audited in case they did change their TOS or changed their policy toward Earth Shrine macro farmers.

On the other hand, if you are using Lightning, you might actually end up being able to do Earth Shrine more often, because you are generating more energy over time as her animation takes that much longer. The problem of course is that when you wake up the next morning you are out of energy.

If Gumi decided Nox macros were against TOS and banned everyone who ever used it, they'd probably cut their paying customer base in half. If they did that, you'd probably want to quit the game anyway, because it wouldn't be too long until it shut down completely.

    Thanks for making this!
I have read all of them and still found this

somehow didn't reset for me. That spin button just didn't pop up at all. Sometime it show up just once and that's it.
Tried anything from rebooting, clearing cache, and above many times still won't do the trick. Well since it's free and I have gotten first milestone at least with some hit on 100, I won't bother now :|

It takes a few attempts sometimes with the reset. This might help in case you forgot a step like closing the app before you try to reset your ID: https://brave-exvius.com/threads/how-to-get-all-5-spins-every-day-on-the-rewards-wheel.42745/
