A knight of the Kingdom of Grandshelt. Lasswell came to learn a great many things during his journey to save the Crystals that shaped both his body and mind. Although his relationship with Rain has been defined in great part by a rivalry that causes him to feel inferior at times, the friendship they share remains unchanged. Ever the hard worker, his newly polished skills with the katana are proof of his progress and effort.

    Pros:
Lasswell has an interesting approach to a new type of unit.

His basestats are focusing a lot on bulk while maintaining high ATK with good HP, high ATK and surprisingly high DEF. His passives are showing an attempt of balancing it as well. A total of 100% ATK with katanas, 50% DEF, 20% HP and 30% True DEF Dualwield, which means when dualwielding Aloha Lasswell (A.Lasswell) will gain 30% of his equipped DEF as a bonus, which makes him decently tanky. He also has 20% physical evasion which helps him reach 100% evasion more easily if you want to use him like that.
His status ailment immunities are great, too, with blind, sleep, paralyze and disease resistance!

His own trust ability does focus a lot more on his ATK than on his DEF though. It's a 45 ATK accessory that also increases your TDW by 10%, which is already quite good on other Dualwielders but on himself he will get an additional 40% Esper stats from it as well as 40% True Dualwield! So if you have him up to at 7* and got both of his TMRs you do have a total of 60% TDW already.

When it comes down to his kit A.Lasswell does have tank abilities as well as damage dealing ones, though the latter is a lot better in his case. So let's talk about his tanking capabilities first.

His first 2 abilities, Summer - Will of the Sea / Breeze are supposed to make A.Lasswell more self-sustainable and suitable as a tank. One of them is a self 80% Reraise with a 5000 HP recover, which is quite similar to what we saw on Chow earlier this year and it turned out to be useful. The other one is a self 150 MP recover with 2 100% physical dodges, which is fine though sadly they do not stack anymore. If you aren't lacking MP you're likely better off using guard though.

And then A.Lasswell has two actual tanking moves. The first one is a 100% ST cover from all damage on a selected party member with an innate 50% mitigation and a self 200% DEF buff. If A.Lasswell is tanky enough for the fight you can possibly protect your healer with it. Combined with the self-reraise this might be useful if one of your important units still dies on the threshhold due to combined AoE physical and magic damage.

His second one you will have access to only in his 7* form and it is a cooldown ability available from turn 1 with a 5 turn cooldown. Once used A.Lasswell has an AoE 75% chance to cover all allies from incoming physical damage while having a fixed 70% mitigation, which does mean his average cover mitigation is higher than any other tank currently, though please keep an eye out for the cons section regarding his tank capabilities.

A.Lasswell can ST dispel the enemy as well as having access to a weak AoE wind move which aren't both particularly amazing but handy at all times. Dispels to counter boss buffs and AoE damage for story events or story clearing.

He also has two finisher moves even though he isn't really a finisher. Summer - Ocean Splitter is a 540% 1-Hit move that will go up to 690% at level 120. What makes this move more interesting is its 3 turn ST 50% ATK/DEF break which may or may not save your life or make him more slot efficient in your team.
His second one you gain with his 7* form once again and yes, it is a CD move. Available at turn 3 with a 1200% modifier.
He can self cap both 1-hit moves with a dupe, but I am not entirely sure if he can still chain cap them with proper positioning and a regular chain partner. With Queen + Nalu she can still self finish.

What he will use a lot more often though are Summer - Winds of the Sea / Waves of the Ocean. Both are 460% ST 7-hitters with Divine Ruination frames, innate wind / water element and an innate 60% imperil to their respective element. At level 120 they will go up to 610%, making the quite strong.

His Limit Burst can also be used to increase your damage for bursting. It is a 2-hit LB with a 1290% modifier and an AoE 3 turn 100% water / wind imperil, which is really good. Its cost is also fairly low with 20 LB crysts so you will have it after a few turns for sure.

Wait wait wait... Why do all of these abilities have Summer in their name if he doesn't have innate W-Ability?
Well... there's a reason for that. Enriched Mind, his THIRD CD ability has a 5 turn cooldown but fortunately is available at turn 1. It increases his ATK by 200% for the next 3 turns, deals some slight AoE damage with a 500% mod and for the next 2 following turns enables him to Triple Cast. This makes A.lasswell able to be a perfect chaining partner for Hyoh in 10 man trials as well as enabling a lot of damage output with a dupe if you gear him for TDH.

    Cons:
A bit of nagging towards his damage dealer aspects and a lot of cons regarding his tanking capabilities.

Why not start with the nagging first. Take this with a grain of salt.
As a Divine Ruination chainer your most obvious trait is... to chain with many many other units. In this case the other units such as Gilgamesh or Orlandeau are mostly Dualwield focused. While Hyoh is W-Ability focused. While A.Lasswell is a Dualwield unit, too, his ideal damage output would much prefer a TDH set due to innate element on his chains as well as his T-Cast. But that way he can't chain with Hyoh anymore without sacrificing a lot of damage and other chainers would lose out on a good amount of damage. Hyoh is his most important chain partner if you don't run a dupe while I'd say 80% of all players rn have a Hyoh lead.

His tanking capabilities are actually flawed though.

A.Lasswell's stats aren't adjusted to being a tank at all unless you go 100% evasion. He has 50% DEF, 20% HP , 30% Def TDW and 40% bonus esper stats. His tankyness is similar to a 6* tank level and if you build him full tank you'd lose out on all of your damage.
His equipment selection doesn't help him. No shields, no helmets, no light / heavy armor. Getting tanky stats on him might be even harder.

The next challenge is using him as an AoE tank. If you only use him to protect your team from one attack it's fine. But his AoE physical cover is locked behind a cooldown, which would make it bad already due to either Dispel or him dying since he's quite frail for a "tank". But its cooldown is 5 turns, so either way you have 2 turns every time (if he doesn't die / dispelled) without having a cover up from him.
A.Lasswell because of that is only an emergency tank.

    Side-Notes:
No clue on future upgrades to A.Lasswell
. As of right now the ability to always chain with Hyoh is great though. Even if Hyoh isn't equipped with a wind / water weapon, if you have the ability to spark you don't really lose out on damage because the only water large sword is bound to the event with decently lower ATK and there is no wind large sword.
You could also use e.g. Seaside Nichol and imbue Hyoh with water. That way you can give him a 2h large sword.

I'll provide a DW and a TDH build, just in case you will use 2x 7* A.Lasswell.

How is the unit as a 6*?
    Aloha Lasswell
at 6* is still a serviceable Divine Ruination chainer.
While he might not be very strong, divine ruination frames can always be useful. He still has innate Dualwield with decent ATK / chains and good imperils. If you just started out the self reraise can also be very good in situations where you simply don't have the healer to apply these.
I wouldn't say he's a strong 6 star unit, but he can work if you need him to.

    Arena:
    Aloha Lasswell
isn't great here. His only AoE move has a low mod with element and he is focusing on Dualwield, which means no accuracy and no W-Ability. Evasion is quite a common thing and especially with the newest addition of Ayaka / A.Rain 7* accuracy and physical damage is quite important.
A.Lasswell is not a good arena unit.

    Aloha Lasswell [IMG]Damage Output
    - Damage Comparison -

For damage comparisons I will look at his Dualwield and TDH damage. However, do keep in mind that his TDH damage output does need a dupe and doesn't really work with anyone else other than him. If you want to use him alongside Hyoh you will need Dualwield unless you don't care about the off turns without T-Cast.

    -> 21% lower than Hyoh ( 601,160,280 )
    -> 27% lower than Nyx ( 649,132,295 )
That's some pretty strong damage output! Especially his burst damage with TDH is really high so if you don't have Hyoh, Nyx, Tidus or anyone but got him you're still set.

    Trust Master Reward:
His TMR is a strong TDW accessory and it is currently unknown if TDW will receive some serious buffs to be able to compete with TDH.
As it stands right now if you already have your TDH set this TMR probably doesn't really bring much to the table. But for users who are in fact using units with TDW this contains some nice additional ATK.

    Super Trust Master Reward:
His STMR imo isn't the greatest. Only 20 ATK higher than Masamune with 40 DEF as an additional bonus but as I said earlier A.Lasswell himself isn't really a tank and there isn't any TDW DEF unit that could use this really. If it had an element on it it'd be more interesting to put on certain dualwielders, but as of right now I'd not try to grab it if you didn't end up with 4 lasswells.

    Conclusion:
    Aloha Lasswell
is better and worse than I expected.
As a Divine Ruination chainer he performs a lot better damage wise than I first thought. His TDH burst potential is incredible after his LB imperil and almost on Hyoh's burst level, though what makes him more interesting is his DW build to perfectly chain with Hyoh. Previously Hyoh didn't really have any other perfect chain partners other than him due to his T-Cast that nobody else had. Now we do have somebody and even though the elements don't match well you can run double elemental on A.Lasswell or simply spark chain if you have the option to.
What is more disappointing though are A.Lasswell's tank capabilties. Yes, if you really do need an emergency tanker who pops against most damage, you can make A.Lasswell jump in front of the incoming attack. But it's on a very high cooldown which makes it a lot worse. IF it was not a CD ability a 100% evasion build would have been a very interesting unit.
Overall A.Lasswell is currently a strong chainer with Divine Ruination frames that can work well with your other Hyoh leads as long as you can spark chain or run a fire / thunder weapon on him. But unless you really need him I wouldn't go for him. In 10 man trials where you utilise this trait the most you don't need it. They are very frail and even tornado chains can deal more than enough damage there to kill most 10 mans fast.

Great review. Thanks for getting this up. I ended up with one from the Summer Ticket summon day 1, but I have all the good 7* you mentioned already so he is not really something I'm interested in other than the TMR because, why not? I've farmed everything else useful.

I am really thankful you did the damage calcs on him because I have wondered about the T-Cast. Right now I only have 1 7* Hyoh and a 6* Hyoh so this gives me options, although my friends list is spilling over with Hyoh, no complaints.

Overall, it seems he is not terrible which is nice.

He definitely isn't terrible. I'll have to edit my rankings tomorrow and put him at #4.

I was interested to find out where he fell in our current pool of global 7*s with Hyoh, Tidus, Queen, Nyx, Nalu all floating about. Also not to mention Reberta, Adam and Viktor. I feel like our 7* pool is small but has a lot of great DPS units so far. It's nice that the Tidus QH family went from himself and 6* Camille (...) to Lightning, Queen and Nalu, all of which are also 7*.

I've had Tidus since his initial banner and have since come into 3 more. At the time I loved him, maxed him and used him all the time. Then, things changed and I benched him pretty much permanently. I did 7* him (and almost everyone so far, but hey) and am happy he and Queen can chain so well together. I have literally never used or enhanced Queen, ever. So I am happy she has become usable. Main issue is, I prefer the DR family which Lasswell finally brings the water element to (see, my tangent had a purpose).

I think his unique elements within this growing family are nice. We have Brotherhood for chaining partners along with that wind spear (name escapes me) and Kaiser Knuckles (Sephiroth) which makes some nice chaining DW DR partners if those elements are desired.

Do you play JP? Is there any other unit who got true DW as TMR? I don't wanna pull on this one...especially because I have MS nichol already.

I dont play JP but I follow Reddit and the community regularly. TDW is basically something of a myth in JP because TDH is so much better that it puts TDW or even DW to ashes in damage comparison. It's all about TDH/DH and W/T-Cast (like Hyoh, Queen, Tidus).

Global appears to be making an attempt to fix this for us before it becomes a problem by having TMRs like Adam and A.Lasswell. There is still a problem though -- TDW cap is 100% and this in of itself is too low even though there is no way to hit said cap right now anyway. Even the TDW passives the units have received are just too low. Reberta gets 30%... that is not much. I assume they assume we will take her jump % to the max which may be why they kept this lower than expected, but it still is a problem.

As we move closer to this TDH meta, the best chainers will be W/T casting their moves, and we will need more and more TDH gear. There will be more to come, but we have plenty right now anyway. What we need is more TDW gear to make more use of the equipment boosts to ATK. If TDW becomes obsolete, then so do all those TMRs that lean towards it such as Hero's Vow - Dark, which is a fantastic TMR for DW and LB based units. Without DW, this TMR becomes and afterthought, especially when the stat caps increase to 400%.

Also, when it comes to A.Lasswell, he is odd because his best damage comes from his T-Casting ability to chain with Hyoh. Without this, he becomes a DW unit locked to 2 elements and forced to chain using 2 1h weapons. To me, this only gives him a niche in his 2 elements. So their TDW character ends up being better as a TDH unit with T-Cast because of his ability to chain with Hyoh. Very backward when you think about what they're trying to accomplish with his TMR.

I kinda like him. He has a fun kit, can take some emergency measures while still having a proper DPS and introduces new elements in the DR family. And also, his attacks and LB animations are amazing.

I have a question. I don't quite understand why he is supposed to be a perfect chaining partner for Hyou with his T-ability when dual wielding. I mean, I always thought W- and T-abilities don't work on DW-units? I learned that after continuously using that ability with DW Lila and wondering why she only attacked two times... ahem...
Anyway, does T-ability work differently than W-ability? And why wouldn't he chain with Hyou when single wielding? I thought that would make him the perfect chaining partner for Hyou. I'm so confused

It's like this: W- ability can make someone use one or two abilities one or two times in a row, while T-ability makes someone use one to three abilities there times in a row.
He's a perfect chainer for Hyou because one of his CD abilities is exaxtly like one of Hyou's CD abilities, unlocking a T - ability(and both of then havĂȘ abilities with DR frames which can be activated) so boom!
And regarding DW and DH... When you're Dualwielding, all of your abilities hit twice right? This does not apply to magic AND W/T abilities or else, DH would be very, VERY broken.

Lasswell is a live proof of how bad DW is.

He has innate DW, 50% TDW, and still more than 20% stronger with DH.

I think the trade off is lower mp cost vs. W-ability.

I also want to point out, assuming 7* Cloud comes out next month, if you can get Cloud's STMR, Lasswell is even closer to matching Hyoh's damage in a TDW build. The jump between Lionheart and Cloud's Ultima weapon is pretty massive. (Another 120 atk total)

Thanks for your answer, but it sadly didn't answer my question :)
I already knew how T- and W-abilities work, and I assumed it would not work with DW. However, meme stated that DW Lasswell would perfectly chain with Hyou due to his T-ability, while he also stated that TDH Lasswell would only really chain with a dupe of himself.
But for my understanding, TDH Lasswell would perfectly chain with Hyou, while DW Lasswell would chain with Hyou like every other DW DR chainer out there, too.

Especially this sentence is one I'm puzzled about. Meme is stating that Hyou didn't have a perfect chaining partner before, but every DW DR unit should chain the same with him, right? So why is double elemental A.Lasswell better suited to be a chaining partner than, let's say, Orlandeau?

I'm sure I'm just misunderstanding something here. But I wanna know what I misunderstand XD It's my beloved Lasswell after all

Take a look at how yang or lelia work. Even if you have them equipped as a dw unit, they will still only proc their abilities twice when using their w abilities. Laswell should chain with hyoh as a dw and then when they both use their t-ability they will each proc the move only three times.

Very bad trade-off considering that you can manage MP cost with external resources.

Hyoh's best rotation include his triple cast cooldown. Chaining with other units makes him unable to be at fullest since he is limited to double cast only.

Orlandeau x Hyoh rotation: (SB = Servant of the Blade, PB = Phanton Blade)

    DR x SB x2 >> DR x SB x2 >> DR x SB x2 >> DR x SB x2 >> DR x PB + SB >> repeat

A.Lasswell x Hyoh rotation: (SWO = Summer - Waves of the Ocean)

    CD >> SWO x3 + SB x3 >> SWO x3 + SB x3 >> SWO + SB x2 >> SWO x PB + SB >> repeat

Sooo does this mean a DW unit can usw T-Ability? I thought it's like W-Ability which doesn't work with DW units. If it works, then that's were my misunderstanding was :)

But then again, didn't meme say he would be worse to chain with Hyou when single wielding? Why? Wouldn't it be the same, just different damage output? What am I missing now? XD

I think the term 'perfect chain' is used as in starting the chain and keep going through the end. ('Perfect Chain' is another term that people use it referring to different things around here.)

Thus, Hyoh doesn't have a partner to 'perfect chain' with when he triple-cast beside himself and A.Lasswell. But, he can still chain just fine with other members of his family, including him triple-cast and his partner double-cast (which will just make Hyoh's last cast doesn't really contribute anything).
